This link may help. Did the doctor run a blood test for your thyroid gland. If so, ask for a copy (we are entitled) and make sure they have the ranges and post on a new question for comments. If he didn't run a blood test for the thyroid please ask him to do so. Make the earliest appointment. Many doctors don't test the thyroid gland for a dysfunction, or read too much into the TSH result rather than the clinical symptoms of the patient.

I'd be interested t see your clinical presentation and tests for diagnosis of fibro - just sayin' as GP tried to diagnose me with ME/CFS (and depression) with no tests whatsoever - mere hearsay! (in my case) J x

Spare, Endo & surgeon *diagnosed* me with Fibro and COPD. Only took 3 months off Levothyroxine to *cure* myself. Endo still puts COPD on letters to my GP although spirometry lung function tests completely ruled it out. I thought a rheumatologist referral was necessary to diagnose fibro. Rightly it would appear.

Yes it does help I was proscribed Gabapentin following a fall and peripheral nerve damage. It worked

very well, took away the pain and and also my lower back pain. I felt great whilst taking it

No Gabapentin didn't work for me I was on a really high dose and put on quite a bit of weight with them,so for me the benifits didn't outway the negatives, and I had to gradually stop taking them,as stopping them to quickly was awful, but some people find them really useful,so dont be put of by my experience

I was told I had fibromyagia 8 years ago (but am now taking thyroid medication). I was prescribed Gabapentin and felt awful on it: totally spaced out. I find that the non-steriodal anti-inflammatory Meloxicam helps enormously with the pain. I was on 15mg but was able to reduce to 7.5 after a few months on Levothyroxine. Good luck.

I was offered gapapentin but refused it since then I take it Meloxicam low dose at 7.5 and find it helps.

I have recently been on Gaberpentin for severe peripheral neuropathy and it made me so spaced out I couldn't drive and suffered from a facial palsy while on it - even starting at the lowest dose.

I am now back on Amitriptyline 20mg which, as long as I take it early enough in the evening, sees me through the night. I also have RA and Hypothyroidism. I agree that Fibro should be diagnosed by a consultant rheumatologist rather than a GP. I do think a lot of people who are diagnosed with this condition turn out to have sero negative forms of autoimmune diseases such as psoriatic arthritis so if things don't improve then do push for a more thorough diagnosis and a different type of drug to Gaberpentin - although it does help many I believe.
