Amanda, T3 is prescription only in the UK but it is available online and OTC in Greece and Turkey and possibly in France. How much to take depends on whether you plan on taking T3 only in which case we'd need to know your current medication and dose or whether you plan taking it in combination with NDT or Levothyroxine.
I am currently taking 2 grains of NDT, which I plan to continue with, as it has brought my thyroid down. But was wondering if you took t3 on top ? am not on levo I stopped that in March thank you in advance
Amanda, some members do take a little Levothyroxine (T4) or Liothyronine (T3) in addition to NDT if the proportions of T4 or T3 in NDT aren't quite right for them.
Post your recent thyroid blood results with the lab ref ranges and we'll be able to advise whether you're optimally medicated on 2 grains or whether an increase or the addition of T3 may be beneficial.
Hi clutter sorry been very buzy doing exams. I am on two grains of NDT currently, I feel I am a lot better is some ways but not in others. I take Vitamin D daily, Iron, Vitamin C and a booster Vit D each month. My. Vitamin D is currently at 51
Thank you in advance
Amanda
Hope your exams went well, Amanda.
Is the booster vitD an injection? Not heard of anyone needing this before. Is it because you don't convert or can't hold on to your store of vitD?
Hi Clutter, make Exam is very stressful, I take vitamin d daily, I think it's 8000 per day. And a monthly booster in tablet form. I don't seem to be able to get my vitamin D levels up , it's been between 30 and 50 for the last three years, The doctor prescribed a booster, we started this mont. Do you know why I am having a problem holding vitamin D
Thank you
Kind regards
Amanda
No idea, Amanda, but it does happen. If the booster dose doesn't raise your levels perhaps your GP would consider loading doses. My vitD was <10 in November and I was prescribed 40,000iu daily x 7 days and then 2,000iu daily for 8 weeks. Retested 116 which is in the optimal range 75-200. I think it dropped off as I had hip and knee joint pain 6 weeks after I stopped supplementing. I supplemented 5,000iu daily and the pain stopped after 3/4 weeks and I continue supplementing as I haven't been able to tolerate the heat so haven't had much sunshine.
