The usual way to do it is a shot every other day for about 6 shots. That's called the loading dose. Then the maintenance shot on the nhs is once every 3 months but many find they need monthly shots. I inject as and when i feel i need it

Naveed, are you self injecting or has your GP prescribed Neurobion? I have only heard of B12 deficient patients injecting with methylcobalamin. This link may be of help b12d.org/b12-and-folate

If your symptoms are returning or you're anxious that they will, contact your endocrinologist via his/her secretary to request a consultation for further injections &/or supplementation and to discuss what your future treatment plan is to be.

Hi naveed123. I recently thought that I had been given an active B12 blood test from Blue horizon. My test results came back at 390 - range ( 191 - 663 ). After posting on this very helpful forum, it was pointed out that the referrence range for active b12 was nothing like the one for the Active B12, that is one of the markers for Pernicious Anaemia. Do you know what the referrence range was when you had your blood result back. I must admit that I was not aware of having injections for low vitamin b unless Pernicious Anaemia is diagnosed. Of course, i may be mistaken. I hope that you dont mind me asking, but were you prescribed this injection, and did your GP diagnose P.A just from a normal B12 level blood test? You didnt mention your symptoms in your post and I would be interested in hearing more about what you are experiencing? If the injection did help you to feel better, then thats good news. Could I also ask whether you live in the UK? Lynne x

That is such good news. I'm glad that you are feeling back to your normal self. Just shows how Vit B12 is so important for optimum health. As I have just had a full Vit B12 panel done, I am awaiting results from Blue Horizon. I read that your question was whether you should continue with injections? Personally, I would ask your endo how he or she is going to proceed with the treatment plan and what caused the low B12 in the first place? Many areas in the UK have stopped diagnostic blood tests for P.A. due to cut backs, so it seems that you are one of the luckier ones who have a good endo to look after your care. If P.A. has been diagnosed through blood testing and you have had other abnormal blood tests such as Active B12, Holo- transcobalomin, parietal cell antibodies, homocysteine, etc, I would say that you probably would need to have further treatment in the future. x
