Hi again,a few weeks back I doubled my levo to 100mcg and take at night, but I feel washed out by lunchtime.

I have been following the help and advice given here and it's been of great help as my doc and nursewere less than informative. It was suggested that I take my levo at night and at first was great but found myself getting mixed up about whether I'd taken it or not and just went back to taking in the morning before work etc. About 2 weeks ago now, I forgot to take my dose and indeed ended up going back to night time dose, and felt a huge difference on waking BUT in the last few days I've noticed that by lunchtime the pre diagnosis "brain fog" is back! I'd forgotten just how hellish that was! I'm due for bloods in another 3 weeks and just wondered what I should do re time of medication? Should I go back to morning doses or stick with evening and maybe take a wee sneaky 50 mcg mid afternoon?? Thanks for all your help and advice, very much appreciated :) x

I keep all my pills in a set of boxes with one for each day but when I was taking levo it said to keep it in its blister pack so I couldn't do that.

What about using a Sharpie to mark the foil on the back of each pill with a day (if the days aren't marked on the pack already ) then you can at least see what days you have taken.

At least at night you are likely to be more awake than in the morning. I used to sleep through the time I was meant to take mine in the morning - used to mess up my whole morning routine when I did that.

Are you getting enough levo if you are feeling like you are running out of steam by the afternoon? Have you been tested recently to see if you need a bit more levo - maybe even on alternate days?

Whoops - just read your email again and you are due a blood test. Maybe you do need a bit more levo. Could you get your blood test brought forward or is that not possible?

The Sharpie was a clever idea.

Hi F

Thanks for your reply. I'm taking my med usually just before I go to my bed and I feel fine when I wake up and go about my day but the last week or so I'm feeling weak and washed out like I was before I was treated. I'm just wondering if maybe I'm getting the best of the levo whilst asleep and have very little left to get me through the day. Wondering if I should maybe take a 50 during the day to "top up" or stick to the prescribed 100 for now until my new blood test in 3 weeks? Or alternatively, go back to taking it in themmorning to get me through the day without that horrid washed out feeling? Sorry, maybe I didn't explain it properly in my question lol.. does that make a bit more sense now?

Thanks :)

Aha - sorry I misunderstood. I tried taking mine at night but even though it was more convenient fir me I just didn't feel all that great and had to go back to the morning again. Can't remember exactly why though.

Maybe the supplement selenium will help as it enables the T4 to convert to T3. Also zinc.

I take in the evening as I go to bed. I do find I sleep better this way.

I would not take extra at the moment as you are due a blood test and you don't want the TSH to lower before the bloods as doc will drop your dose further!

I take my dose of 50 mcg. in the morning because I can feel the results within an hour so the evening dose keeps me awake also my stomach isn't empty at night. I take an extra 25 mcg. at lunchtime if I feel I need it - the dr. is quite happy about this as this is how your thyroid works naturally by releasing extra thyro.when needed.

Hi,

I was told to take my thyroxin before breakfast by the doctor, it also says that on the box x

I did take in the morning at first but but a suggestion was made to try taking at night and I found this to be better as I felt as if I was losing weight but, just in last week I've been feeling weak by lunchtime. Just because it says so on the box doesn't mean it's right always. Not a dafty, but thanks :)

I would have thought that with Levo, which builds up slowly in your system, that if you are taking enough (and that sounds like a big if in your case) it shouldn't matter when you take it. The important thing is that you don't take it within an hour of eating/drinking anything that prevents absorption e.g milk, iron tablets etc.
