Welcome Rooney
Can you give us a little more information, please. Are you being treated? What have you been prescribed and what dose? Do you wish to ask a question or need help.
Thank you Shaws. I was diagnosed with Hashimotot's over two years ago. I've gained over fifty pounds in six years without changing my diet in any way. I just chalked that along with a host of other things to menopause since that is what my doctor kept telling me! Yes I am taking 90mcg of Armour daily. I was just curious if there were anyone out here that has had bariatric surgery who has Hasimoto's disease and how they fair after surery in as far as weight lose is concerned. Thank you.
Hi Rooney,
I had a similar problem where I gained 60lbs over the last 3 years without changing anything. My doctor was upset because my cholesterol, blood pressure and heart-rate were also headed in an upward trajectory. I just kept gaining more weight. At first they thought it was menopause and sent me to a hormone specialist who ran blood testing and it came back a little low, but not enough to make a difference. I was then sent to a specialist who dealt with weight issues and nothing worked. Now that I have been diagnosed with Hashimoto's and Pernicious Anemia we are hoping that through diet and exercise we can get my weight down. I am surprised that a bariatric surgeon would do the surgery for only 50lbs, you usually have to be obese. What are your thyroid numbers? Have you been tested for vitamin deficiencies and/or insulin issues?
Hello asmile and thank you responding. I have gained 50 pounds in the past six years bringing me up to 240 pounds! It was my
orthopedtist that suggested I get bariatric surgery due to the fact that I now have mod/severe arthritis in my right knee mild/moderate in my left and mild arthritis in my right hip. He feels if I don't lose a large amount of weight he can gurantee that I will have to have both knees replaced and possibly my right hip. I'd rather go through this surgery than to have replacement of my joints. And honestly that is only one aspect my sugar is high, liver enzyme is ellevated along with a host of other things. I'm a complicated case. My TSH is now normal but Vit D is low and I am taken 4,000mg of Vit D a day to help with that.
