My previous physical and mental crash was caused by the drug Quetiapine. After 6-8 weeks on this drug, I went completely hypo ( as mentioned in some previous posts so sorry if I am repeating myself and becoming boring). my Gp referred me to psychiatrist due to ? Cyclathemia, but after reading many many posts and updating myself on thyroid symptoms of high and low lately, I am not convinced that I have cyclathemia at all and that the trigger was Quetiapine. I did not suffer from this level of anxiety previous to using this drug. 6 weeks later after the ' melt down', I went to A/E with extreme photophobia and severe pain and swelling around the eyes. I was prescribed 60mg of prednisolone and was sent to an eye clinic 4 days later. The prednisolone was reduced on a programme and I am now down to 10 mg per day until next monday and then one per day for 5 days, then to stop. I have developed extreme anxiety ie 8/10. I went back to see the psychiatrist who appeared puzzled by the affect of the quetiapine and was prescribed Trazodone for anxiety/ depression but this drug made anxiety worse. I was able to find one piece of research that says Quetapine should be given with care and careful monitoring. At the moment, I am avoiding all antidepressants, and my GP had prescribed Diazepam 5mg to take when I can no longer take any more anxiety. My question is - is the prednisolone adding to my present anxiety? If so, does anyone know how long this will continue to the existing anxiety even when i have finished the regime? As anxiety/ depression seems to be a very predominent feature of thyroid problems, i wonder if anyone else here on the forum has had any similar experiences with Quetiapine? I reported my experience to the " yellow Card scheme from the BNF as I was not convinced that the psychiatrist would ( as reported to me). Im getting very paranoid about Drs as a whole due to my many negative experiences and mis- information and/or the exclusion of it. Many thanks. Nezzykins x
