Yes I benefitted a great deal. He gives you the confidence to monitor your health and manage your treatment. His support is on going even after the appointment. Please do not be concerned.

Yes and I wish I had consulted him sooner. He has given me a much clearer understanding of causes and effect of thyroid problems and provided on-going support. I strongly recommend that you read his book first, 'Your Thyroid and how to keep it healthy', as I found it simply written and quite illuminating.

Is Dr. Peatfield still alive? I thought he passed or have I got that wrong?? If he is still here how would one get an appointment with him? Thanks!

It was Dr Skinner that passed away, last November. Dr Peatfield is still very much alive.

Hello Mackers63,

I have seen Dr Peatfield, he is such a lovely man and does try to help.

I seem to be the exceptional case and I am not yet in good health, saying that he really did save me from losing my Job, home etc by acknowledging my adrenals were rather poorly and also introducing me to T3.

So in a nutshell I have benefited by seeing him greatly but I not well yet, his help has paved the way for me to have the energy to do further research on other issues that effect the Thyroid Medication. He is great & I will always think highly off him

I re-inforce what Marz says above. He gave me the confidence to monitor my own health (which I was sort of doing, hence why I sought him out in the first place). I took my blood test results for the last 19 years with me and he said I had been suffering for that long (since the birth of my 3rd daughter). It was great to have that confirmation because I knew something was wrong (I had only been properly diagnosed for the 2 years prior to that). I was in great pain since taking levothyroxine and he said I wasnt absorbing it and it was welling up in my joints etc hence the tremendous bone pain I was suffering from since being diagnosed. He gave me the confidence to give T4 up altogether and take T3. I havent yet dared tell my doctor about this yet but will have to very soon because of another health issue. What I can say is that 19 years of my life were almost ruined with anxiety and lethargy and then another 2 years of joint pain and swelling. Since being on T3 I have never felt so amazing. I have never gone back to him but have monitored myself well (I think) getting my own blood test results etc. I know I can call him if I need to. I hope your appointment goes well.

p.s. I believe Dr Peatfield had been quite ill and admitted to hospital over xmas. I think he is better now. He is in his 70s and I dread to think what we would do once he isnt around to help us when we need him.

I still havent told my doctor! However I am going to be forced into it soon as I had a weird health scare....couldn't breathe after a long flight. I was worried it was DVT, it happened twice, doctor doesn't know what it is, various tests including ecg, chest xray and blood tests. Ecg okay (he thought it might have been a silent heart attack) but still waiting for xray and blood test results. Im not sure what tests were done but if T4 or T3 done, then he will wonder what on earth is going on. Glad all is going well with you.

I still cant lose any weight though. Was a bit worried when I saw Dr Peatfield was ill so I think my GP should know incase I need rescuing.

Thank you very much everybody for all your help i really do appreciate it. It seems that the majority of replies i have had seem to be very positive about Dr. Peatfield. The first step i am going to take is to read the book that was recommended to me and then take it from there.Has anybody mentioned to their GP that they have visited Dr Peatfield and if so what sort of reaction did they get? Thanks again for your help.

Dr. P. is wonderful, knows what he's talking about. When I told my GP I was consulting him, all she said was "Oh, I've never heard of him". She's never mentioned him since, but I don't see her now except to request blood tests for Vit. D, iron studies etc., all so important with hypothyroidism. As Dr. P. explained, thyroid function tests can be so misleading, there's no point in them once you' re being treated properly. It's how you feel that counts.

Good luck. Trixie

Thanks Trixie, please can you tell me which blood tests i should be requesting from my GP. I have had Vit D and iron done in the past. Are there any others i should be asking for? Thanks

Hello Mackers. I ask for Vit. D & bone factors, because calcium can go up too high with Vit D supplements, which I have to take. Also Iron studies, Urea & Electrolytes, Magnesium, B12 & folate. However, the local hospital won't do B12, but Dr. P. said that my folate was OK so B12 should be OK too. I wanted intracellular magnesium, but they won't do that either, only serum Mg, which isn't so helpful. I supplement with Mg transdermal gel anyway, because Dr. P. recommends 300mg daily & I understand that it's better absorbed through the skin.

All the best.

Trixie.

I have ordered the book and will read it but it seems this is where I am heading...is he in Birmingham? Bless him, 70 years old and still practicing..in spite of all the furor over his ways. :-)

I will go this route after a very disappointing Endo visit yesterday which I waited months for.

I have his book and he knows his stuff-so glad good reports are still flowing in.

If T3 is needed will GPs prescribe this? - as Dr D-P in unregistered now.
