Hi Nicole

Why have you stopped taking it?

What dose were you on?

Can we take it that you are not in the UK?

This information will help people to better offer support... :)

I would think you sleep a lot because you don't take your medication. Please try to remember to take it, set an alarm if necessary and see if you get any improvement.

There have been several similar questions recently - in fact, going back a long time.

I suggest you read this:

If you are hypothyroid and neglect medication, it can lead to other more serious diseases., i.e. heart etc.

This is another good site in the USA.

It could well be that this change is not because you are taking the synthroid but because you actually need more. Or indeed might even need to add T3. It might be worth your while to ask your doctor to prescribe some Natural Desiccated Thyroid (e.g. Armour) for you. When were you last tested? Was your T3 tested?

It doesn't matter what anyone says, after you are off the medication for a time you will find everything is going wrong with your body and you will end up begging for it back ;)

There is an interesting dimension some hypothyroid people experience which we see discussed here sometimes, which is a kind of emotional coldness or detachedness (separate from the emotional turmoil, sadness, weepiness, etc which can also come from ht). I wonder nicolemyers28 if this is what you're experiencing. 'Why bother taking my levo, life is the same with or without it', etc, but then you note that you're sleeping more and your friends are saying you're a different person when your meds are changed.

Being hypo makes the world seem sort of black and white and two-dimentional, and when you're well-medicated the colour and flavour begins to come back again. I think you sound as if you may be in this flat hypo world and you may see the difference when you're back on an optimum dose of meds.

One question nicolemyers28: what do your blood tests look like when you're on meds? You may be undertreated.

I would be very interested to see your last test results and ranges if you feel like posting them here.

I would add - which I forgot to say before, that not taking them not only will it affect you physically it will also affect you mentally. Many a doctor has misdiagnosed dementia when all the patient needed was thyroid medication. And of course it becomes a vicious circle. The more you don't take them the more confused you get and less likely to remember to take them, as memory gets impaired as well. Maybe you were forgetting to take them because you were becoming more hypothyroid, which makes me think you might need an increase of dose, or supplemented with T3 - or to take NDT.

I don't take them because I don't have any for one reason and as the days go by I really don't think about it. I do have a lot of dizziness. Head aches . And everything that has been. Commented about my side effects are pin pointed.. right .I haven't been back to the Dr. Blood work would do no good .bc I haven't taken them for a while. . Thanks to all of your comments . I would like to know if and how long I do not take the meds if it gets more serious...

Well I think you have confirmed you need them! It will get very serious indeed if you don't sort this out. Please go to your doctor, and stick to your meds, please x

Nicole, you need to respect yourself here and get someone to help you fight for you, whilst you are so tired. Please ask for help and listen to everyone's help here. You are worth it and you need nutritional help too. Please love yourself more and get the tests done and at least for now take your medication until there are perhaps better medication options for you. Depression and lethargy are a part of this, because we are not balanced. Take care of yourself -please

Do you have a mother or husband or boy friend or girl friend or even next door neighbour who would go out and get you some or collect a prescription from the doctor for you, and make sure you take them regularly until such time as you are in a better mental state to do this yourself. Definitely go and see your doctor to get tested. As you have not been taking any medication the tests might be very useful as they will show what your thyroid state actually is now. I suggest when you go and see the doctor that you take someone with you. It is a vicious circle. The more you do not take your medication the more you will get too lethargic to bother.

Give yourself some love -- by taking your thyroxine! Love yourself into health and happiness by taking your medication as you should. Just do it.
