Sometimes the fillers/binders in different makes of levothyroxine may cause some side effects.

St Johns wort is not good for anyone with thyroid issues, its no good for anyone really but particularly not thyroid patients. Avoid it !!

IMO it should be banned

Not a good idea to take it if you're on thyroid meds as I believe it interacts.

You can read about all the UK levothyroxine tablets here:

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/treatm...

St John's Wort has lots of interactions. Only the other day, the MHRA issued this:

Summary

St John’s wort interacts with hormonal contraceptives. This interaction reduces the effectiveness of these contraceptives and increases the risk of unplanned pregnancy. This applies to all hormonal contraceptives except intrauterine devices, for which there are currently no data

mhra.gov.uk/Safetyinformati...

There are many other such issues.

Do you take it for depression? Try taking 5 HTP instead - I take that &haven't noticed any side effect.

I take 5-HTP as well. I've been told (on this forum) that it isn't good for my thyroid, but I wouldn't be without it. It works for me, is the only thing I've ever taken that actually does work, and I intend to continue taking it, come what may!

Now got some St John wort. Is there one that is better or are they all much alike. Will see how that go. If not will try 5_htp. Thanks

humanbean my doc has me taking it and doc is treating me for ht (not sure if this means something good for 5-HTP or something bad for my doc). How much do you take?

Which one is your doctor. Giving you

I almost always take 50mg per day, which is the tablet size I buy. I take it about an hour before bed and I find it helps me to sleep. If I am particularly depressed I will take a second dose of 50mg a few hours earlier, but I very rarely do this.
