The result of my recent Thyoid function test. I was told the result was "normal" with a number of 5.4. I still feel rubbish. Is this normal?

It is anything but normal and shame on your GP for telling you it is.

Are you on any medication and if so what and how much?

I am on 75mg of levothyroxine per day. It was the receptionist that told me it was normal - should I query it?

Best to get a printout of your results and post it here. For someone on treatment a tsh of over 5 is very high.

Then both of you ladies need an increase.

jacquikent - Do not bother with a receptionist as she is not trained to read results correctly - always speak to a GP and yes if I were you I would be querying these results sooner rather than later. You will not feel any better until your TSH is nearer one (and possible a little under that) so an increase to 100mcg's and possible more is needed.

oldheavylegs - you need to do the same - go back to your GP and ask him/her to treat by symptoms and not blood results. Even if he was treating by blood results alone your level is way over the upper range, and the same goes for the poster of this question.

Both ladies, from now on always get a print-out of your blood tests, with the ranges, for your own records and if you have a query with your thyroid gland ones, post a new question.

Unbelievable!!! Went back to the doctors and he said "you are overdue for your Thyroid function test" I said I have had it and I am here because I was told the results were normal, but I still feel awful! He told me the recent blood test I had, was a glucose level test, which at 3.4 is normal!!! My glucose levels were never in question!! Now I have to take more time off work and go back.
