Trina, the other commenter is talking about the A1C test which is a 3-month average but I understand with a daily, normal recommendation of under 100 (on a glucose meter), damage occurs at levels of over 140. Perhaps your mother was in that borderline range between 100 and 140. While people can actually feel pretty good when range is high, it damages organs.

Hi Trina, sorry for the loss of your Mother, regarding your question, if she had been an undiagnosed diabetic, then any of the risks of being diabetic are more likely such as heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, eye diseases such as glaucoma and blindness, gangrene, limb amputations, sores that won't heal, thrush, water infections etc etc, we lost our Mother in 2010 even though it was common knowledge she was diabetic and was on medication and insulin, her results were still sky high though the gp ignored it, even when her toe started going black they kept telling us it wasn't gangrene (it was), by the time we got her into hospital (by harassing the doctor and the hospital) it was quite severe and because of the very high dose of anti biotic needed to treat her, her poor kidney function (which again the gp did nothing about) couldn't cope and they failed. You (or it might have to be the official next of kin such as your Father if he is still alive, or the executor of her Will) could always request copies of your Mothers medical records, they may request a payment for them, but I am sure you are entitled to them

We have received the report back from mums solicitor as we were already dealing with the hospital over right ankle that had a double fracture in December 2011 but only 1 fracture was x-rayed and mum was left disabled and incontinent this how we have discovered the untreated type 2 diabetes we also have reservations about the doctor that was supposed to examine the very same x-rays that I viewed 5/6/2013 after the complaints team requested them to be donefor 06/08/2012 & 03/09/2012 after mum had a fall which injured a sibling because her ankle was still fractured at the Tibia /Ankle joint.

Thanks I have read some articles relating to this and also found the same about the kidneys because this subject is very much in my face due to have treated type 2 I felt that this needs to be confirmed, the article has stated that both kidney's and the liver could fail. thank you for words of comfort.

I am sorry for anyone who has lost a member of their family due to neglect of a medical professional. We do not expect to have to find out after their decease that their medical condition should have been monitored better and it is very hard on family members.

At one time, I would never, ever have thought negligence was due to the doctor but my sister and I found out the hard way too.

I am going to take further legal advice, after we have spoken to the doctor that treated mum this time in that god forsaken place as we want answers as to why her healthcare was not taken more seriously and why were not informed as we believe we should have been. This hospital will be made to take responsibility for its medical and clinical neglect.

I know they close ranks as the complaints team replied to me, after their response in August 2013 it was handed to mums solicitor whom visited her while she was in hospital from 30/03/2013 to 29/05/2013 due to the nature of the complaint I feel that this has not been dealt with correctly by the doctor that mum's solicitor used if there was no case to be answered why did it take so long for them to inform us.

It just seems suspicious that the solicitor was informed of mum's death 24/01/2014 and the medical report from the doctor was completed on 29/01/2014

My GTT results show 6.3 and I am told I am OK. Please tell me what you know.

I am not an expert but from these results you are okay as they have to fall between 5 -10

I always try to keep mine around 6-7 as i still struggle to understand all of the counts however when I visit my endocrinologist I always ask questions I have an appoint this afternoon for my Thyroid and an appoint on Friday morning for my Diabetes.

Many thanks Trina.

I saw my endo for thyroid 03/03/14 and asked about it as mum was borderline and was having to have 2 biscuits at night to keep her sugar levels from dipping too low his reply was something was not right because her levels would not dip if she was borderline or type 2 it would have been the other way around. He has told me that we need to speak with the doctor that was treating mum as he said that there alot of questions that need answering even if she was borderline she should have been referred at the 1st diadnosis to be frequently monitored.

after yesterdays appoint I am feeling a little bit better about my own health issues my thyroid is where it should be and my blood sugar count is under control I have lost another stone in weight considering my recent loss that is quite understandable as I have a lot of family problems with siblings which have not altered since my eldest sister passed away 26th September 2012 the only sibling I have contact with is my youngest sister and we support each other.
