First, ask your GP to run a full set of thyroid tests and ask for a print out of the results. Also ask for your iron, folate, ferritin, Vit B12, Vit D and kidney function to be tested. Come back and post the results here so people can start to help you. You might also consider making an appointment to see Dr Peatfield. He practices as an alternative therapist and his clinic is in Crawley. He's not been well lately and I don't know when he is hoping to restart his regular clinic.
Iv'e been on thyroxine for 22years,never felt quite right and lately awful, but G P will only do ordinary blood test. I approached them to see an endo and I was told "if you want to waste your money" they really don't seem to realise just how unwell I feel
They can give you a referral to an NHS Endo - email me for a list of ones who are a bit more opened-minded than most.... louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org
If your GP will not do the testing, you can arrange to have some done for yourself:

If you are able, there are labs which will do private tests. This is a link and cursor down to Thyroid Testing and there are several labs.

I believe Blue Horizon has been used by quite a few members.
If you email louise.warvill@thyroiduk she has a list of sympathetic doctors.
Getting a recalcitrant doctor to do more tests than that 1 useless one (mine was the same) is probably not going to work. And I can quite see that having asked and been told no you feel awkard about pushing the point (as your doctor intends you should). Either see a different doctor, or get the tests that will show what's going on with you (given in replies below) from a private lab and take them to your doctor. At that point an 'I told you so' will probably be quite hard to resist ... ;0)
