4 months after surgery is still very early. Mine did not settle for about 6 months and was still very red and dark looking for up to a year. It is now almost invisible after 2 years. The nurse advised me to massage my face cream into it every night and morning and I think that really helped. It will improve.

My mum had cosmetic facial surgery and the surgeon told her to use vitamin e on her incisions. Within a couple of weeks they were largely invisible. You can also try steroid cream if the scar is inflamed and sensitive, and some people find aloe gel (preservative-free, so you may have to keep it in the fridge) very helpful. My friend's son had shingles and found aloe very soothing and healing.

The only thing I would say about face cream is that, although it obviously worked for debjs, if the scar is already uncomfortable something like ordinary moisturiser and massage might irritate it further. You may need a little trial and error. Good luck. x

Just read Shaws link which is interesting as most face creams now contain sun block, vitamin E etc. My scar was sore and tingly but the gentle massage seemed to help. When I had a problem with the skin on my arms (my recovery is a long story!) and touching it was like being given electric shocks the physio said rubbing moisturiser in several times a day can desensitise it. Same principle I guess. Hope it works for you.

Apparently the tingle is from the nerves knitting together again and massage is meant to be really good for that.

I get that shock feeling on my arms too! My husband will put his arm around my shoulder and it feels like being stabbed. My skin is okay but it is my flesh under the skin that feels so sensitive, like even gentle touch can bruise it.

That feeling went when I stopped taking Levothyroxine but I started calcium and vit D supplements at the same time so wasn't sure which it was. It did come back when I had a brief trial of Levo again recently though.

Wow, how interesting. My long-term plan if/when I get well again for long enough is to see if I can cut out the t4 as I only ever had a 10-20% improvement on it even when my dose was raised. I'm on high doses of d, but I have been for a while and I haven't noticed a difference. I'll keep an eye on it for sure...

I swear by Vitamin E oil, as mentioned above but make sure is quite a runny one, as some are very stiff and hard to spread, especially if the scar is still tender. I used it on my TT scar and also many years ago, my daughter developed a keloid scar, after cutting herself on glass. It became a hard ridge but although it was several years after the original wound, when I heard about Vit E oil, she rubbed it in every day and it completely disappeared. Good luck!

organic rosehip oil

Yes it's called Dermatix and it costs about £25 on Amazon. My surgeon told me to use it and my scar has totally gone.

I used Estée Lauder Night Serum. Brilliant stuff, but expensive.

Bio oil from boots is good and not expensive.

Hi Tatty10!

Have you ever considered having your scar removed by any chance? If you have, you could get it done abroad, in places like Turkey, Thailand, and the UAE (medigo.com/en/plastic-and-c... for a fraction of the UK cost - for less than 100 euros even!

Just thought this information might be helpful to you! :)
