Have you got any other results that you can give us or was it just the TSH test you had done (thyroid stimulating hormone).

Have copied this from the main thyroiduk website.

TSH = THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE

This hormone comes from the pituitary to stimulate the thyroid gland into making more hormone. TSH rises when the thyroid is struggling.

The approx. reference range for this test is 0.4 to 4.5.

So as you can see from the above your TSH test is showing that you have enough thyroid hormone in your blood.

Thank you. I had my blood taken to check for diabetes, as my optician recommended it, the nurse said she would check a few thing like thyroid, kidneys, liver cholesterol, they just said they would check for a few thing. Then the drs rang today say all was fine but my thyroid was a bit low at 0.22 they are going to redo my blood in a month to see if it puts itself right..

Then this could mean that your body is producing to much thyroid hormone and is making you over active.

Have a look at these signs and symptoms of an over active thyroid and see if they rings any bells with you.

I'm not to good with over active thyroid problems (I am under active) but will try to help if you have any more questions. If I cant help there are others on here that can.

The best way to judge whether your dose of thyroid glands medication is sufficient is by 'how you feel'. If well, it's sufficient.

Before the blood tests came in patients were dosed until they felt better but now the reliance is on the TSH alone.

TheTSH meaurement is really not accurate for some of us and this is an answer to a question:-

A TSH of 5.7 shows you are hypothyroid (underactive) When I got diagnosed my TSH was 6.8. The normal range for TSH is 0.3 to 3.0, though many doctors feel a TSH over 2.0 is not normal. If you have a TSH doctor, always test first thing in the morning or you will get undermedicated. The TSH was developed to adjust the dosage of Synthoid, so it's not always the best test. It doesn't show if one has low T3 or not and being that Synthoid is a T4 medication a patient that needs T3 would never know this with just a TSH. That's why I always recommend a TSH, Free T4, and Free T3. I'll post a lot of info about lab values and hypothroidism below for you.

Also autoimmune thyroid disease can suppress the TSH - so a lower TSH does not necessarily mean you are hyper at all. I'd say a TSH of .22 was about right but it's hard to say unless they also test your free T4 and T3. It also depends whether you are having symptoms and feeling unwell? Blood tests are merely dots on a page, they are only one tool in the toolkit. How are you feeling?

TSH is not a thyroid hormone, it's a pituitary hormone so it's a really rubbish test all round really.
