Who else has changed taking their Levothyroxine from daytime to nights ?

Has it made any difference to your symptoms ?

Not sure if you have seen the poll conducted here - and the 169 comments on it!

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

At this time, around 12.8% of those who "voted" take theirs at bed-time.

I no longer take levothyroxine as it caused me more problems than it solved but when I switched to taking it at night I did notice some improvement. I do take a small dose of my T3 at night though.

You might find this interesting. It's a poll from a while ago.

Did you find a small dose of T3 at night helped you to sleep?

Thank you for all your quick replies, I have been reading Helvella's link and will return to read it again. Notice quite a few people having improved symptoms after taking Levo at bedtime. It's been just over a week since I changed Levo (T4) to bedtimes and so far I feel almost back to normal. Can't believe that such a small change could make such a big difference in so short a time.

Do have a slight problem though as just before swopping my routine I had more blood tests done as I told Doc I was still having awful jumping around pains and tiredness which were getting worse. The tests were for b12, iron, ferritin, + others.

Should I mention about my improvement to Doc straight away or do I accept any extra medication prescribed then go back to Doc later ?

Before feeling far better I did wonder if B12 + Iron would help, wouldn't want to miss out on these vitamins if I did need them, but also don't want to be overdosing either, any advice please ?

Remember that simply being prescribed a slightly higher dose is not a requirement for you to take it. Unless, of course, you find yourself without a suitable selection of tablets! Even then, alternate day dosing can achieve a lot of different doses.

That is, try to keep the flexibility by accepting any increase, but don't feel forced to take it.

In the best of all possible worlds, you would have a full, frank and lengthy discussion with your doctor. And you would be able to drop back for another test whenever you felt the need. In this real world, you have to do what is needed in your circumstances.

Thank you Helvella,

That is very good advice (whilst living in the real world :) )

My 2 Docs have been spot on so far, perhaps they've been reading on Thyroid UK themselves ? :)

Yes Shade,I did try taking mine at approx. 10pm nightly, but honestly didn't find much difference.

I now take it between 3 & 4 am when mother nature wakes me up...so kind of half way realy, I find this is better as I like to eat breakfast quite early, and this gap is good.

I take 100 mcg levothyroxine at night. When I took it during the day I was always tired. Now I take it at night and I have no side effects. My levels have also been fine.

Snap!, moran816,

I'm on 100 mcg.Levo too. Glad night times has worked out good for you too, think it's more to do with taking levo on an empty stomach and 4 hours away from iron and calcium (dairy foods.) Some find it easier in the mornings and others at night.

'Tis amazing what we learn from others, I'm still learning bits and pieces every day on here. :)

I have been reading the posts about taking Levothyroxine at night and thought I would give it a try. Amazing results, have been having palpitations when trying to sleep so had to sleep propped up for the last week, took Levo at bedtime and wow, could sleep on my side, no heart wobblies or palpitations. The awful stabbing pains in my legs were zero, none, nothing. The cramps were gone. I had a small banana and a medium cup of green tea and drank water in the evening. But I went off to sleep really well. I took 2 days to transfer all my dose of levo to the evening, halved the dose for a few days then total dose last night. And, no aches or pains during the day, just remembered, wow, I have walked halfway up our local hill today and can't remember stopping for the pain. Feel a lot better today. I hope it continues and not a one off.

Yes for some it can be amazing and all pains can go 'over night' literally, I woke up and all my brain fog gone also really like a mirical. I was later put up to 125mcg, but now am starting to self treat with NDT Natural Dessicated Pigs Thyroid.

Remembering that vitamin D is also good.

Second day today, no pains at all, slept so well last night, just drank water late evening and at bedtime, up once for the usual wee and back to sleep. Alarm went off this morning, I got up, did the kids and me breakfast and got dressed instead of crawling back to bed and getting up later. I also take 3 Nutri Thyroid in morning so perhaps that will be better spacing them out rather than Levo and Nutri Thyroid all at once in morning.

So pleased you are back to normality again Dramlouie, when ill you never think you will get well again, yet being just a little under medicated can mean such a difference in how we feel.

What is the Nutri Thyroid ? I have heard NT mentioned many times, but cannot remember.

Yes! such good news for you and your family. Do pass the word onto others. :)
