Hi I would like to know if cholesterol and hot flushes be anything to with thyroid problems
Thyroid: Hi I would like to know if cholesterol... - Thyroid UK
Thyroid
...in days gone by and before the Holy Miracle of the TSH test - patients were diagnosed with being Hypo when they had raised cholesterol ! Many people here tell us that their cholesterol lowers itself when on an adequate amount of Thyroid treatment. I for one had normal cholesterol when diagnosed - whatever normal is ! - but once on T4 it went up. I ignored it as we need cholesterol. May have it checked this winter when I have my annual check. In my book, Homocysteine is more important than cholesterol but as it is lowered with adequate vitamins there isn't any gain for BIG Pharma and so it was ignored by many. Over 80% of our cholesterol is made in the body - so it is there for a reason. VERY little comes from food - it's just another excuse for the food industry to sell you special foods we do not need. I know - I am turning into a grumpy old lady
The thyroid is also our thermostat so having hot flushes could also be connected.
My cholesterol was raised pre: diagnosis and medication, it has now returned to normal. I also had hot flushes and again don't have them anymore since going on Armour meds.
