I know I had a cold last week BUT my ears have been really playing me up they are so blocked and very sensitive to any noise , and it's not that I had a cold they do seem to block periodically is this anything to do with being under active ????

Well, even though I have some hearing loss, I am a bit sensitive to noise, and I didn't used to be; my Mother (hypo for many years, always kept "low" by Doctors too) is RIDICULOUS with her noise hyper sensitivity, everything bothers her, even very normal TV volume and she jumps out of her skin SO easily, and I have long put it down to Hypothyroidism, especially as it is so poorly controlled (not that she will "create" and complain to do anything about it though!).

The "blocked up" feeling though might be more related to simple wax though... might be an idea to have them looked at properly again that could be hypo too, although plenty of people who are not hypo have the problem too, mine was worse years back before I had any hypo symptoms, so I personally can't blame that. That's the problem, it's easy to blame things on thyroid, but as there are so many potential symptoms, it's pretty hard to be sure one way or the other! :-(

I would go and see your GP/nurse and have your ears checked for wax as already recommended above. I had a similar problem a few years ago but was lucky to see a fantastic doctor who prescribed drops which cleared the blockage immediately. It was a build up of a type of candida in my ears. I still kept the packaging as he recommended this if it ever happened again but luckily it has not. If you have any auto-immune disease it can affect any part of your body at any time so worth looking into. This is only from my own personal experience so best of luck and hope you get it sorted soon.

I have lost some hearing on one side. I am hypothyroid. ENT guy said 'some sort of autoimmune problem', when ENT tests came back normal. I'm guessing it's hypothyroid problem as it's known to affect hearing, but as above posters said - it may be just wax thing...

neither ENT nor GP nor Endocrinologist nor immunologist bothered to address the hearing loss even though I kept asking about it. Once basic tests are normal the docs are covered

Hi Angela, Just found this site. Iv had a blocked ear for about 3 years, Found out two months ago iv got hypo.

it's has been a bad few years for me, regarding all the numerous symptoms you get with this disease. Now I know!

Hi Angela, I get some blocked ear problems now and again - I find that my ears get clogged up with wax very quickly too. Not sure if this is to do with my hypo.

I get pretty bad tinnitus also - I went to a nurse about it and she explained I have some sort of blockage when she looked in my ears, but she said it wasn't wax!

I'm guessing it is to do with the hypo but I don't know as I've only been told I have hypo 7 months ago.
