Does anyone know if us Graves should get the fl... - Thyroid UK
Does anyone know if us Graves should get the flu jab; I've been offered it but reading on line it makes me think maybe I shouldn't?
There was a whole thread on the flu jab recently...However, do you think I can find it...!? *sigh* x
I haven't had a flu shot in thirty years and other than a few stomach bugs haven't had the flu. Build up your immune system, make sure your vitamin D level is very high. I don't have Graves so I don't know if that makes you more susceptible. I know what they say but my friends took a flu shot last year a week before going on a cruise. They were very ill for 7 days of the cruise and needed treatment costing $700.
Thank you, I don't normally have them either other than the only exception when I was pregnant 2 years ago. But my gp has offered me one. Wasn't sure tho.
Wow bet that was a very exspensive holiday ;(
Hi Princess
I to have graves, I have a flu jab every year as my gp advised
Due to taking carbimazole . Never been I'll after the shot and as my work take me into schools there is a lot of flu about.
Recently read this article thyroid.about.com/od/relate...
Hope it helps))
Personally I never have a flu jab as my body has quite enough to cope with!! I often found, in the past, that when I had the flu jab my body was so busy trying to cope with the dead virus that I was extremely ill with something else!!
I have taken Carbimazole for 2 years and advised by the GP to have the flu jab. Apart from a little tenderness on the needle site, I have not suffered any other side effects. It is your decision, I thought I would share my own experiences.
I am 71 and take anything on offer regarding my health. I have seen the effects of full blown influenza and it's not nice.
Coping with a thyroid condition is hard and I wouldn't want to add something so serious this winter, but that is only my personal opinion. You still could cancel the booked appointment if you aren't happy to have it.. your body/your choice.
