anyone help with carbimaziole please?

I started taking it yesterday, my dose is 40mg.

I've now got a sore throat and i feel quite hot but temp is normal.

any advise please?

See a doctor. It might be appropriate to call 111 or whatever we have these days.

The Patient Information Leaflet for Amdipharm/ Mercury Carbimazole says:

Stop taking Carbimazole and see a doctor

straight away, if you notice any of the following

side effects:

• Any infection such as a sore throat or

mouth ulcers.

• Fever.

• Unusual bruising or bleeding.

• Feeling unusually tired.

Your doctor may need to do some tests to check

for something called ‘bone marrow depression’

before you start your treatment again

Feel for you - must be very upsetting to finally get a medicine that might be a step towards feeling better - and have a potential mega-problem.

Hope you have spoken to 111 or GP. I hope it works out for you.

My initial reaction to carbimazole was mouth ulcers and they kept a close eye on me, it did dispel after approx 3 weeks but I was on weekiy monitoring.(was 15 years ago)

Hi Karen, a few weeks after I started on carb for Graves I had swollen glands on one side of my neck and a very slight sore throat, having read the leaflet that came with the pills and been told to look out for sore throats etc by my pharmacist I was very worried, I rang my local surgery, explained what my problem was and had a same day blood test which turned out to be ok. So hopefully you will be fine too.

I had a sore throat when I started with Carbimazole I went straight to have a blood test and everything was fine but it is really important that you get this done.

Don't worry, you will not have depressed bone marrow function after one dose. It takes time to develop.

It sounds like you have caught a virus. Consult your doctor if your symptoms fail to improve within a few days. In the mean time, take paracetamol or another appropriate analgesic to ease the symptoms. Hope you get better soon.

I had a similar issue with mouth ulcers. Blood test next day as a precaution but all well. It's a faff but worth it to stop the what ifs. Good luck!

I had tonsillitis while I was on it and had blood test just to check, it was fine but then changed to propylthiouracil, an alternative to carbimazol again got tonsillitis and this time the blood test did show my red blood count was down, so I would always get things tested just to set your mind at rest, good luck

Hi I have always sufffered with tonscil problems and still get them. So I do not panic now when I get a sore throat on carb however it is always worth getting it checked out. Good luck

hey everyone, thanks so much for the info, Im fine, I called 111 and they advised me to go to hospital for a blood test which was normal, they think just a sore throat thank you again for the support, I dont feel anyone else really understands how I feel as I look healthy. Kx
