Have any other thyroidectomy patients found that bv/thrush features as a regular thing? Im post menopausal. It mimics thyroid symptoms too.

candida is linked to hypo.

I have today spoken to my GP about systemic candida and she was it very impressed and said it is a controversial subject. She said she couldn't test for it but I could take fluconazole (I have a kidney problem). Anyway I keep getting scalp candida and been taking caprylic acid but I don't know f it has done anything. How do you treat it

Thanks for reply Roslin. I have asked my GP several times for a full screen to see if indeed this is the reason I feel ill and might explain why the endo team are saying they cant find a thyroid prob. But my GP has said they dont do a candida test. ( Same for T3 which I have been pestering for as systemic candida will affect efficiency of meds) He too took lots of info from me that I printed out re candida and said it was interesting. Finally I have been given fluconazole, but feel inclined to leave until I know its the right thing to do. Ive had adrenal and vit D deficiency last year. I am now considering a private full screen candida antibody test from thyroid uk. Yes my scalp been driving me mad with feeling dry, itching, lumps and sore. Not dandruff or anything. Ive bought a bar of neem soap which is perfectly pure and you can use to wash hair too. Just work up a lather in hands and work into scalp. I think it feels a bit better? I Its from OneVillageSoap.com £2.50 a bar. x

I saw the GP yesterday and she wont do a candida screen either, she said thet systemic candida is very controversial and I got the impression she didn't believe in it. I am thinking of getting a private one as well. at least private blood tests can be done by the nurses at the surgery so I dont have to go to a private phlebotomist. it all gets very expensive. I will have a go with the neem soap. PS fluconazole can be bought over the counter.

Hello again, just to say Ive had my Genova candida antibody screen blood taken this morning at surgery. The phlebotomist commented they are not insured to do them really, and then despite giving her the instruction leaflet on what to do, and what not to do with the sample, she didnt even read it, so consequently didnt mix the sample thoroughly as instructed, and shook the container even though it says dont. Just hoping its ok as it can fudge the test result. Not to mention the expense. Its an uphill struggle with the NHS all the time. Wait and see now what transpires from it.x

Hi

I spoke also to one nurse at the surgery and she said that they will do it but she has decided not to because she is not so familiar with vacutainers and she doesn't want to stuff it up as it is so expensive. So it seems it is up to the individual nurse if they do it or not. The other nurse does it apparently. I think she is wrong about not being insured. She is probably not insured through NHS but she would be through her professional body.

Nystatin is much safer for candida control than fluconazole.
