I've been put on thyroxine for a slightly low thyroid. I wasn't "underactive" but very low down within the "normal range". However...

My tendinitis is terrible. Preventing me from working as I'm a fitness instructor and it's in my left hip and both shoulders. Been in thyroxine for just over a week. Will this help with the tendinitis and how long until it starts? Just feel like things are getting worse

Hi I just read your previous post - you were treated at 1.25, t4 12 (I'm presuming 1.25 is the TSH - have you got ranges for both TSH and FT4?). You have a good GP if they went by symptoms.

I think it is early days yet and you are probably on a low dose. My joint pain/muscle aches have eased considerably by supplementing Vit D3 (have you had yours tested? as well as irons, folate/B12 as mentioned). Vit D is actually a hormone and very underestimated - of course sunshine is better and oily fish etc (but you'll only get a max 10% by diet).

Best wishes, being in constant pain is not somewhere I'd like to go back to, and sincerely hope you have some relief soon. Jane :D

Hi Jane.

Thanks for your reply. I can't remember all the ranges...I had blood tests for everything and she was going through them so fast I couldn't remember them all. She did say I was low in TSH but within normal level. An expert said some people don't function well with it being in the low range of normal and DIY my prescription to see if it made things better, is 50mg once a day.

Joints seem to be getting worse but only been a week. I do feel better in myself. Lots of muscle twitches too, really weird.

After reading posts on here I've increased my B12 and Vit D. Also ordered magnesium as that's meant to be good for tendonitis.

I now have a week off from all the jumping about so gonna have a week of body worship and relaxation. Fingers crossed

John xx

When you get your blood tests, always get a copy from the surgery - you are entitled, They should have the ranges as well as labs differ and it makes it easier to comment upon them if you have to post them.

I found my muscle aches, cramps, twitching etc got worse, esp at night, when I first started levo, then got better after several more weeks. Eventually it all settled down again and I feel good now - apart from a knee injury... it does seem that I'm more vulnerable to joint injury since becoming hypo.
