hi Bourne62

Yes I have suffered similarly and the breathlessness was put down to anxiety for which relaxation breathing will help. Do you have a lot of anxiety? Shallow breathing can make you breathless on exertion. However, in my case I had a heart problem too that was only identified with a 24 hour heart monitor and I now have a pacemaker. Maybe just to be on the safe side you should ask your GP for further tests though it’s much more likely to be caused by shallow breathing and anxiety. Horrid for you I do understand - but worth checking. My pacemaker has transformed my life though I still have IBS C which causes me much more distress!! Good luck I wish you well.

Yes, I thought it was just me that gets this. I seem to get it along with IBS and anxiety. I wake during the night and can't seem to breath properly giving me a feeling if claustrophobia which I have had since a child. I put it down to anxiety. I also get fast heartbeats at times and sometimes my heart's skips beats. I got this checked out a couple of years ago and I wore a monitor thing for 24 hours. I've had a heart murmer for donkeys years and that showed but nothing much else apart from a few extra beats they said and not to worry about it. So I didn't, but it still continues. I was reading into Histamines which the body makes naturally but the body can become overloaded with them causing symptoms such as breathlessness, fast heartbeats, diarrhea, bloating, nausea, headache, itching, all of which I get regularly and this could be causing my IBS. It's like the body overloads with Histamines.

Some foods are high in Histamines so I'm trying to identify them and avoid them or cut down, but so far it's not making much difference. I don't know if anything can be done about it or if it's down to avoiding these foods.

If anyone else has any information I'd be glad to hear about it.

Yes I too find I can't get enough air in when I'm doing certain jobs. Sometimes it's just going to thd bathroom and cleaning my teeth, other times it's climbing hills and sitting in the car for too long which makes me think sometimes it's tight musles around my chest and stomach.I had two stents put in two years ago with lots of tests since but the specialist didn't seem to he worried about anything. I havd used my heart spray just to see if it makes any difference but it doesn't so it still feels like it's muscles . I would love to know if you find the answer because it is quite worrying. Best wishes.

I have just had heart and lungs checked because of breathlessness, nothing showed up even though sometimes just going upstairs can leave me struggling for breath. Also going up any incline causes the same. I'm not overweight so that's not the cause, it's frustrating because I know it's not normal, my 77 year old husband whose a smoker doesn't have that problem!

I occasionally do get shortness of breath, but my lifestyle is very physical with lots of work to do so I am inclined to ignore it and soldier on, and do breathing exercises. But yes I get "funny turns" like that sometimes. It can happen in the evenings, usually after dinner when sleepiness can come on me. but it comes and goes and can be gone in 10 minutes. I also get missed heartbeats, but had a doctor listen to my heart and she said it was "very good". Actually my resting heart rate is very healthy!

I blame it all on something happening with the Vagus nerve, plus sometimes I don't get enough sleep as I have a more shortened sleep duration lately. I am worse in that respect when I haven't had enough hours of sleep, and better when I get them.
