Someone I was talking to recently suggested I give my IBS a name. I hadn't heard of that before but it seems to be a thing, to help you feel in more control and other reasones.
So does anyone have a good name for their IBS and how does it help?
The someone suggested off the top of their head 'Barry'. Could work!

Hi XDjames, that is a strange idea, but at least we could tell off our IBS by a name 😂 like Moggiedee I have many choice words for my IBS that I’d better not post 😂
I know of people giving names to growths/tumours because they are aware these will need to be taken out; I have (asides IBS and IBD) a meningioma which is a very slow growing brain tumour albeit benign - I have not given it a name but possibly if I have to have surgery at some point down the line, I will. As for my IBS/IBD, because the IBS part is an umbrella term, I suspect when in a flare I would be saying the 'name' 24/7 which I feel may be concerning for others around me, particularly if various other words were used in the same sentence than cannot be mentioned on this site!
It seems a motivation is when talking to partners (and others), it makes it sound less like it's something that's that's the fault of the sufferer, leading to resentment against the sufferer for being ill and affecting those around them. Making it separate and with a mind of its own (as indeed it does) could help.
I do understand where you are coming from (my background is psychology); I feel as we all have individual differences, it is a worthwhile consideration for those who feel a name is beneficial.
