Every morning is a battle, waking up in different degrees of discomfort, frequently excruciating, until I can relieve myself and 'blast' -since it's inevitably wind that is causing the discomfort. I can barely do anything until I'm sorted, which can mean losing a good part of the day. I even woke after one hour in bed last night and experienced the same. So it must be the lying down that does it (wedge pillow doesn't help) and I'll try sleeping in a comfy chair. Anyone have a similar experience and found a solution?

Crap mornings
Wedge pillows can help upper GI tract gas but not bowel gas. I do have alot of bowel gas so have adjusted my diet. GP prescribed Mebeverine time release caps, they helped me
You cannot sleep in a comfy chair long term so you need a solution that hopefully works! I only get very gassy and its very painful when I am in a mini flare with my IBS/IBD as I have both. I increase the peppermint tea, I also take peppermint capsules and I take buscopan max doses (although mebeverine is fine too). My gastro prefers patients to take Buscopan but you just need to take max dose alongside diet change even temporarily. There are lists of foods that will promote gas online - just avoid. You may need to go back to GP otherwise to see what they suggest... good luck.
Good morning! I share your pain with excess wind. I have Diverticulosis and something my doctor described as ‘fast transit IBS’. This means that I have almost constant trapped wind and toilet time can be explosive!
Through a long period of trial & error what seems to work for me is Wind-Eze pills (Simeticone), probiotic in pill form each morning and plenty of fibre. This has slowed me down a lot and to an extent allowed the wind to pass through a bit easier although I usually have some trapped wind to some degree.
Recently I came across a suggestion on how to increase my fibre intake even more as even eating more fruit, veg, whole meal everything wasn’t cutting it. So far, for me, what’s helping a lot is a teaspoonful of Psyllium husk, flaxseed & chia seeds each morning mixed in with warm cereal. I did experiment with drinking the mixture with water- it’s disgusting 😂
Good luck with finding what works for you- it’s a never-ending balancing act!
Hi XDjames, Are you sure you haven't got Gastritis, or maybe Gasterinteritis? Are you able to try Gaviscon Advanced (Aniseed flavour is the best). It's quite serious what you're going through. Please see your Gp, The Walk-in Centre or even A&E. If not & you're in the UK, call NHS111. It needs sorting ASAP. Please let us know how you get on. All the best 😍
Thanks, official diagnosis is IBS (aka 'don't know) but the morning thing does the most damage so it really is now my focus, and it's possible there's something else that's 'hidden' by the diagnosis. My GP must be fed up with me but I will ask next time, and hospital GE is practically unreachable (private was a dead end). I tried a (prescribed) antibiotic (metronidazole) to control the gas-bugs but the immeduiate effect was worse so I stopped. Mebeverine, Wind-Eze don't seem to have any effect. Haven't tried that Gaviscon, will give it a go.
i’ve had similar mornings. One safeway to get things moving rather quickly is a glycerin suppository, inserted with a glove finger. Sometimes it’ll even help the gas get going.
