Does anyone suffer from post nasal drip and a choking sensation in the throat alongwith IBS?

I suffer from nasal congestion and a constant need to clear the saliva that collects in the throat along with the usual IBS symptoms of extreme bloating and difficulty passing gas.

I have a lot of sinus problems, always have from a child, but now they are interacting with the IBS. I find there is a connection between them. If my nose is runny, so is my bum and if my nose is dried out and bunged up then my bum feels bunged up too. When my IBS first started it was more runny but these days, as I am getting older, it's not so runny, in fact its a normal consistency but just still wants to keep coming. I find it hard to deal with as I am trying to tell myself I don't need to go back to loo but not only my bowel is telling me to I need to go but my nose is telling me the same thing. They definitely interact with each other. I have heard other people saying they have the same problem, so it's not just us!

Before bed I make a strong brew of ginger, garlic, turmeric, black pepper, coconut milk and honey. I use frozen garlic and frozen ginger. I played around with the quantities until I found what suited me.

Yes. My partner now calls me Kermit because my voice is so affected by the mucus in my throat that i sound like a frog. I'm constantly clearing my throat and I have a cough. It's caused by reflux. It's sometimes called Silent or Damp Reflux. I cant take PPI's because they affect my IBS so ive been prescribed cimitidine. I also tried a steroid nasal spray. That might help you.

I had post nasal drip with taking ramipril. Changed my blood pressure tablet, it then took about 8 weeks to stop. I have been fine since.

Yes, and it gets worse when the IBS symptoms get worse, so I have always connected the two. I get constant irritation either side of the back of my throat and cough up small amounts of clear mucous. Sometimes my nose runs like a tap.

I echo your symptoms (over many years) and have had various investigations and medications none of which have worked. I do know that lactose makes the post nasal drip and gagging worse along with increased visits to the bathroom. However a lacto free diet doesn’t equal a significant reduction in everyday symptoms.

Yes, for the past couple of days I have felt like I'm choking & I can't seem to clear it, takong an antihystamine before bed helps. I didnt connect it to my IBS but this has been worse lately, stomach cramps & diahrrea from first thing in the morning, & even through the night. I don't sleep well anyway as I have sleep apnoea so I'm always tired with poor energy levels. I've just started taking Kula strong colon cleanse & Vitential Probiotics. I'll let you know if this makes a difference, keep going folks, Mo xx

I have a runny nose all the time. I understand from my Nurse Practitioner at the Crohn's Clinic that this one of the side effects of Ulcerative Colitis.

I always feel like I have something in the back of my throat, constant clearing it and clear mucus. I was just told it was from gerd. I use hard candies to soothe it. I take PPIs but nothing clears it completely.

Yes! I'm so glad someone can relate. I suffer from severe constipation and this happens to be when I am backed up. I get the post nasal drip. Sometimes when I swallow something it feels like something is caught in the middle of my throat and I have to eat a tablespoon of peanut butter it drink lots of water to get that stuck in throat feeling gone. I don't have the chocking sensation but it gets very annoying..
