Have you worked with a dietician and tried the Fodmap diet?

Loolops in reply to b1b1b1

Yeh tried the formal for quite a while without any difference, haven’t had the option of seeing a dietitian!!! Haven’t seen gastroenterologist for a year or more go has referred me again but with COVID there is such a backlog just need to play the waiting game, not that I’m expecting much last time I seen him he never lifted his head from whatever he was writing so rude hopefully be a different doctor

Sound like there should be more investigation into your situation I wouldn't back down I would keep at them ...

How are you going to the toliet are you frequent or that sorry for invasion but I know with Ibs it can be one way or another or both x

Loolops profile image
Loolops in reply to Curious8654

Yes a bit of both but mostly the runs and I mean runs go told me to take codine phosphate but then that makes me the other way had all tests I think I could have and disappointedly I feel I just have to keep taking the codine and then fybogel for constipation, been waiting to see gastroenterologist again for about 9 months I’ve lost over a stone in weight but still look 9 months pregnant 😡

You sound like you’ve been on a similar path to me so far, Omaprozole was useless, I’d suggest you try Mebeverine - I’m pretty sure that has helped me and helped several people I know. Worth a try

Loolops in reply to Paul1066

Thanks for suggestion but I tried that and didn’t do a thing for me 😡 GP. Is at a loss of what else to try and has referred me back to gastro but who knows when I’ll get appointment x

I’ve been dealing with this for three years and GP has finally referred me to Gastro… only about another 22 weeks to go before appointment due…

Unraveling a puzzle involving IBS is not a one answer solution. My son's began years ago and years after using an acne medication called isotretinoin also known as Accutane. He is still being treated for ulcerative colitis. The first link below contains a diagram of the vagus nerve, the brain- gut connection. Thiamine plays a critical role in the that connection and a deficiency impacts gut as well as brain function. Thiamine requires enzymes from magnesium to become bioactive and diarrhea can cause a loss of magnesium creating a possible deficiency. This link, although about SIBO, has a good graphic of the vagus nerve connecting the brain to the gut and has info also applicable to IBS. You can search on " thiamine IBS" for additional sources. Three forms of thiamine, benfotiamine, TTFD and sulbutiamine, are important to study as they offer benefits other forms do not. Remember the B vitamins work better together. Take time to find out about the other B vitamins. Florastor is a good probiotic for diarrhea. Understanding how anti thiamine factors in your foods and planning meals around them is an important step back to putting normality back in your life. Always consult with your health care professional before using any supplement.

Thank you so much for information, I’m just wondering if I had trigeminal neuralgia a few years back and had a pad put in at the bottom of my brain stem and the trigeminal nerve wonder if there could possibly be a link there ????

Hi. Omeprozole made my tummy problems unbearable. I felt like I had bricks in my upper stomach after eating. I changed to an H2 and the relief was great. Some have been discontinued (like Zantac/Ranatidine) but you can get others. PPI'S Are much more potent and disrupt the body's workings if you take them for too long. All the best.

Yeh I’ve been on omeprazole for a couple of years , what’s an H2 is it a prescription tablet thanks x

Hi there. Yes it is. Ask your Doc if you can try them. It's a good way to wean yourself off Omeprazole. Google Famotidine. Much better for you. Then after a while you can cut them in half and slowly come off them. Then just take them if you have a flare up or you are going to eat something spicy etc. Hope this helps.

As there’s no appointments, I wrote it all down and left it at the surgery for my GP and never even got a phone call nothing to discuss it , so where do you turn so disheartened 🥲x

Hi,you sound like me although I’m not depressed.I’m on esomeprazope and buscopan daily. I get anxiety but that’s probably because I have suffered so much pain and running to the loo it can make you not want to leave the house. I had weaned myself off omeprazole until last month when I became ill with severe burning pain in my stomach. So now I take esomeprazope which I don’t think is much different. The problem is I reckon they cause me more constipation which is no good for ibs.So now I’m left wondering what to do because my gp isn’t very helpful at all.Anyway I hope you are feeling better. At least everyone on here has an understanding of what we all go through.x
