Oats

Hi there, feel like I'm asking 20 questions at the minute but I'm really not well.. After my episode Monday night which took 5 loperamide to settle I've gone until these even without going to the toilet again.. After going 5 times my tummy is almost at the diareoeha stage again.... I had a porridge pot this morning (which is the first time I've had porridge in ages, probably months) and after doing a casual poo inspection I'm 99.9% sure it's gone through me undigested... My question is do oats disagree with anyone else as I always though oats were sensible food to eat? Thanks

Hi Yes I can't eat porridge, it seems to upset me all day, I think it is because of the fibre for me, fibre just upsets my stomach so much. I am going to a naturopath in 2 weeks so I hope she can help me, as my diet is rubbish.

Hi, yes that's what I thought, eating something to fibrous after days of not going. Fingers crossed you get the help you need, my diet is also rubbish but doctors won't refer me to anyone to help. This is why I get so frustrated I can't even eat something as simple as porridge without being bad

Yes same, I am actually really bored of food at the moment, because I tend to revolve around chicken, bland white bread, small amounts of white pasta and a few vegetables such as butternut squash and courgettes and carrots. I have had 4 strawberries tonight because I felt like I needed some vitamin c, I will see how I am in the morning. I would really like to be normal.

Yes that's pretty much my diet too along with microwave basmati rice and rich tea biscuits when I feel sick (which is 99% of the time cos I have emetophobia too) I would like to feel normal too but I'm starting to accept this is my version of normal. I had a banana today and some grapes and 4 thin slices of pepper which I don't think have agreed with me either. Can't win

I can't eat bananas, grapes or peppers well I avoid them. I am so confused about what is safe and what isn't ....

Really wow, I think I'm OK with bananas but I think peppers have played a part in me being bad tonight too. Yes me too 😭

I am ultra scared about eating out and take imodium most days just to carry out a normal life. I am still hopeful though that one day someone will be able to help.

charlotte1706 profile image
charlotte1706 in reply tohuggit

Me too but if I take imodium I end up not going to the toilet for days but it doesn't stop me cos its easier to be constipated than ruining a day out back and forth to the toilet (in my opinion) fingers crossed!!

I agree I am exactly the same, I take them as a precaution which is probably wrong, but it means that I can live my life in peace, more or less.

L-Glutamine & Lansoprazole.

Hi. Try 30mg of Lansoprazole in the morning before you eat & also 15g of powdered pure L-glutamine.

I take 15g 3 × a day. Then 30mg of Lansoprazole before bed.

I'm eating everything now & toilet seems to be normal after 8 years of bad (Bile acid dhiarrea)

I also have much more energy & feel normal now.

Have breakfast, lunch & dinner but don't snack.

Please try this & let me know if it helps?

Ps Look up L-glutamine if you haven't already. An amazing essential amino acid. Really good for the gut. Don't worry about taking more than the RDA as there are no side effects or reported health issues.

I buy lots of it. 2 500g bags coming on Monday. Also good for the muscles💪💪

Hi thank you I have tried l-glutamine in tablet form before, but not the powder. I have purchased so many things if I'm honest and they just haven't worked. I am seeing a naturopath a week on Thursday, so maybe she could advise me.

I also tried the tablets which done little for me.

The powder worked so much better when taken in large doses. I read an article where it was advised to take the increased dosage of up to 80g a day. So far (2 weeks) i have felt really good. I hope the naturopath comes up with the answer for you but I would urge you to get on the pure powdered L- glute👌

I believe it has as well of making me more solid, it helps with the absorbtion of food which has increased my energy levels.

I take it on an empty stomach & I no longer snack for best results.

I hope you get a good result with your up coming appointment.

Let me know how you get on👍

I take L’glutamine in tablet form but would be interested to know the best place to buy the pure powdered form?

I get mine on Amazon. I like pure series bulk powders.

Hey there. I’ve had a look at your past post, and I’m so sorry you’re having such an awful time. Oats don’t agree with me - either horrible heartburn or diarrhoea. You’d asked in a previous post about artificial sweeteners, often found in “sugar free” foods. Avoid these like the plague! Aspartame, sorbitol, xylitol, saccharine - all aggravate IBS.

I’m concerned for you that some foods are passing through indigested. This could suggest you have a post-infection IBS, SIBO, or an intolerance/allergy. Have you had food poisoning at some point in the past?

I had constant diarrhoea until I cut wheat out of my diet. Wheat intolerance causes wheat to ferment in your gut and basically lines it with a fermented slime (nice, huh?)...and so your food regularly fires right through, barely digested. I see you’ve tried gluten free....why don’t you just cut wheat out? You need to be vigilant about it and try it for 2 weeks. Keep things bland for the first week and slowly introduce other things - your gut needs time to heal.

Have you had any sort of testing? Xxx

Hi, I'm so sorry I've just seen this. Yes most foods seem to go through me undigested... Peppers, oats, seeds to name a few... And when you mention slime... My mucus is off the charts!! I can't afford to cut out wheat unfortubslt the products are too expensive but I try my best to limit it and I'm also thinking dairy aggrivates me so from today I'm cutting that out too. I've never had food poisoning. I seemed to start with my symptoms about 10 years ago (aged 14) when going through a stressful period in my life and they've never really settled down since.

I've had bloods done a few times and the camera down xxx

Hi. Try soaking the oats overnight in the fridge and then cooking them with a pinch of cardamon x

Try eating 'overnight oats'. They are much easier to digest. Loads of recipes if you Google it. No need to cook them either which means they are both ready to eat first thing in the morning, last for a couple of days & don't loose any of their nutritional properties. Also help to keep you full for longer.

I have a similar problem and I was very surprised as my GP recommended them. It took me months to rule them out as I was blaming everything else for flare ups. I was practically living on porridge at one point as I had read so much about it being good for everything. Just goes to show IBS is a minefield. In contrast to oats, I can eat onions and the general consensus of onions is to rule them out completely!
