Lunch!

So yesterday, I wasn't feeling too bad so ventured out with my husband to a local garden for a walk in the sunshine 🌞. They have a cafe there, so thought I would get something to eat around 3pm (hadn't eaten anything before that). So went for a big piece of Red Velvet cake and a cappuccino. What do you think happened next?!

Don't have to worry about calories with IBS(D). See my comment at bottom of page.

Coffee stimulates the bowel I believe.

I know exactly how you felt, done the same thing a few weeks ago . found out there is beetroot in red velvet cake which is a big no no for me so maybe thats what upset you. Hope you are feeling better now.

Thanks for your kind reply, I did not know they put beetroot in red velvet cake but I don't have a problem with it anyway. See my comment at bottom of page.

Hi, just thought I would let you all know that I was actually fine after eating the cake and drinking the coffee. Well as fine as I ever am. Just goes to show how unpredictable this IBS is.

Ok spill the beans - where's the garden then ?

I'm thinking the garden may have helped, as well as the cake.

Best wishes,

Ernest

It's called West Green House Garden. It is a private garden but included in the National Trust Gardens. It's near Hartley Wintney in Hampshire. Free if your a National Trust member. It's very peaceful with ponds and baby ducks (at the moment).

Looks good.

Funny that walking round a garden or through a piece of woodland, will have a positive effect on you that you might not expect.

Its a no effort form of meditation. Took me many years to realise that.

Hope everyone can get out somewhere nice whilst the weather is kind.

Wishing you all well,

Ernest

That's fantastic, although, all too true. Unpredictable is right on the head! I'm glad you were finally able to spend a lovely afternoon soaking up life, and cake! Funny how unpredictable it truly is. One day I can have a burger with the works (including onions!), next time, it's all down hill. :( For me, I think it depends on just how empty my system is. If I have been eating like a bird and absolutely starving for a good meal, I may be ok after I really eat something, but if I'm just eating because it's meal time, that's when it seems to not turn out very good. Well, cheers to your nature walk, red velvet cake and coffee (sounds wonderful!)!! May there be plenty more in your future :)

Thanks for your lovely response to my post. I have cut down the amount I eat a lot in the last couple of years. I don't have breakfast anymore and don't generally eat lunch until after 4pm and my evening meal can be anytime between 8pm and 11pm, even later sometimes. Also if I feel full, I stop because if I continue eating, because I am enjoying it, I will just end up feeling horrible. I think generally this seems to be better for me and have also lost about 2 stones in the process. But it will always be unpredictable. It's a shame, because I love/loved eating.
