gastroenteritis with IBS..

Hi guys! So, for the last 3 days I’ve been suffering with bad gastroenteritis (cramps, nausea, fever and very watery diarrhoea!) - I am not really eating much apart from some toast and drinking water but I am worried about getting backed up because I am literally just passing water when I go number 2 so all my fluids must be going in that. Has anyone had any experiences of what their bowels were like after they had gastroenteritis? x

I spoke to them the day after it began but didn’t want to go in incase it was infectious x

Gastro can be either viral or bacterial the first one tends to be longer 10 days of symptoms, and highly contagious...the other may just be three days or so and can be treated with antibiotics. I have had the bacterial one and diarrhea and vomiting stopped after a day or two. Bread, thin broth, water, eventually you can eat heavier stuff eggs (no fats, butter) etc.

Staying hydration is key especially with the vomiting and diarrhea. If you have ibs which makes you gassy ....fruit like apples and bananas should be avoided.
