Gum clinic

Hi all after thirteen wks of being told I have IBS by four different docs and not being convinced my daughter got me to visit the gum clinic today as she works at the hosp. After an internal at the front,I've been told that the actual problems I am having is due to two prolapses,a rectocele and cystocile. Even though im not happy about having this problem,I am relieved it is nothing sinister. Don't always take your docs word,if your not convinced go get checked

Wow..are you sure they performed the right tests to properly diagnose that? That must be a big relief. I think I may have one too..a bit scared..don't want surgery.

Yes I had a internal by a lovely consultant who after giving her a lengthy thirteen week symptoms story ,she new what it was before she gave me an vaginal examination. On giving me a vaginal examination she confirmed I had a rectocele which is a bulge/ prolapse from the bowel into the vagina and a cystocele which is a bulging bladder/ prolapse into the vagina. The gum clinic isn't just for std but also for the sexual health etc. So bad lower back pain, period like dragging pain ,stomach pain, pelvis pain groin pain, excessive flatulance, trapped wind, nausea indigestion, heavy feeling down below ,constipation.the list goes on.

I can relate. I feel something protuding out, when I try to have a movement. Liie my entire anus..(?) What is scary..no flatulence for post two days, no bm after almost 7 days. My Doctor does not know anything about "digestive or rectal issues" I just go to a low cost clinic as I am on SSDI..you only get 15-30 minutes. Its so painful when I walk..Like something (a mass?) coming out of anus when I walk. It hurts to sit. Don't see a Gastro till August 30th. Looks like it is the emergency room..I think it is more than a prolapsed internal hemmorhoid. Very frightening. I live in group housing, and fear they may evict me and try to put me in a nursing home..which Medicare does not pay for..and I am sure, nursing homes know nothing about treating constipation/possible prolapse issues. I'm going to try a stimulant laxative, as that is the only thing that works..if nothing than I guess another embarrassing trip to ER..are you having surgery?

You must live in the USA then?I am fortunate to live in England so free health care. Not sure about surgery yet as need to see gynea. Would rather not.do you feel heavy sort of in rectum or vagina area? Mine all started with constipation, then like a pressure and heavy feeling in pubic area groin pain and so on. Was never convinced it was IBS which they shouldn't diagnose anyway untill everything ese has been ruled out. You need to be seeing a colorectal Dr really, not gastro.

Too push it back in?

Eliana5 profile image
Eliana5 in reply to Nasturtion

I did, she was rude..said I had "folds" and could not do anything for me. But this for hemmorhoids..internal. The other rectal surgeon about 8 months ago..said he could do rubber band litigation..but I don't want that type of surgery, because I would strain and just break the stiches/rubber bands anyway. I don't know who else I can see..as I have no transportation, and/or rely on my case manager to take me to Doctors appts. But she will be out of office for next two weeks. I live in a small town..the next largest town would be Cincinnati, but my case manager Has only a certain alloted miles she is given by agency. New Gastro called me back..said he was familiar with rectal prolapse symptoms..and would try to get me in sooner..but I am considered a "New patient"..so I don't know..his office has call center agents..I always have to hold and hold when I call. I told him this..He said he would have them call me. Seems like a very nice man..but I don't know. Yes, I live in United States..no free health care. Yes, feels like heaviness in my Anus..I'm miserable.

Nasturtion profile image
Nasturtion in reply to Eliana5

Yes I feel for you, nothing worse than constant discomfort and pain. Have you tried drinking lots more water? I did and find I don't need to push much to start a bowel movement now and lots more fibre but found out that if you eat more fibre you also have to drink a lot more water.i wasn't doing that when I was on high fibre very low carb diet and I'm convinced that's what started my problem off but not bad at all now with loads of water. But the damage has been done so the best I can do is try to manage it by not getting constipated. I don't need to push it back up as it isn't protruding out yet. Try drinking a lot more water see if that helps.

Eliana5 profile image
Eliana5 in reply to Nasturtion

It just makes things worse..the water kind of goes down to that area..makes me feel bloated and want to push. Talked to Gastro on call. Same one I am seeing on August 30th. Said he was very trained in prolapses..but couldn't "diagnose" me over phone, I said since I was a new patient I understood. He said to call on Monday to get in to see him sooner..told him..I always have to "hold for so long just to get a hold if schedulers. Had to call back 6 times one day. Said he would have a talk with Office manager about that..and that his office would call me instead to try to get me in sooner. I am pretty frightened. All my family is gone..last was my Dad, who passed in 2008. Most of my friends don't talk to me anymore..because of IBS, and It's almost impossible to have social life. This is no way to live. I really hope it's not prolapsed rectum..can't afford any more medical bills. I am not sure what you mean about finger..pushing it..? Fiber makes me feel awful..it makes stool too bulky to travel up a colon..and out a tiny opening in our anus the side of a quarter. If you get a chance Google "The Fiber Menace" written by a Gastro. On gutsense.org. Very good article. Fiber is not good for us, it's outdated..made up by John Kellogg, owner of Kellogg cereal. It came about because of a false commercial promoting the cereal and being "regular" cereal contained Fiber. The Alaskans don't have fiber to eat, and there is no IBS problems with them..or Aborigne tribe.

Nasturtion profile image
Nasturtion in reply to Eliana5

The fibre I mean is green veg and fibrous veg like cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and fruit,I don't really eat cereal apart from a little porridge as I don't agree very well with gluten ie wheat. So I tend to stay away from bread pasta , cakes biscuits etc. British medical promotes five portions a day of fruit and veg to have a healthy bowel, less red meat ,less processed and smoked food ,much less sugar. So I do my bit as best I can by keeping my carbs quite low as I am also type two diabetic. I only use best butter and loads of extra virgin olive oil. Do you feel as if there is some kind of blockage as you are just about to pass a motion at the very bottom of your rectum?

Eliana5 profile image
Eliana5 in reply to Nasturtion

I just sent a long reply..but must have hit the wrong key, my message just disappeared. Too tired and miserable right now to write it all over again. Seroquel is a very sedating med. I am not sure if I have a blockage. I will be standing or sitting and all of a sudden, just feel like everything in my Anus is dropping. I try to feel..but Anus appears in place..I don't know..maybe so much (a week's worth of stool) in anus..but does stool even go on your anus? I thought it stopped in your rectum..so I don't know what I am feeling. Just pain, tightness and extreme fullness. I stopped trying to have bowel movement..it hurts..just blood coming out. So confusing. If The Senna does not work..I am most likely impacted. I have been eating non-stop all week..Seroquel increases your appetite..a good thing because I am extremely underweight. Going to ER tomorrow..can't take this anymore..I can't eat cauliflower, broccoli..gastro told me it is too hard to digest..causing cramping and bloating..I can eat fruit..light fruit like grapes..so as not to get too backed up..I'm off to bed in a bit after I take laxative..have a good night..will write if I can tomorrow..

Nasturtion profile image
Nasturtion in reply to Eliana5

Have a look at pictures of a rectocele on Google, this could be what you have. When I was checked and doc showed me pics it all made sense of the feeling of what I was experiencing. Poo gets trapped in there and you get sort of backed up.

Eliana5 profile image
Eliana5 in reply to Nasturtion

Took 4 Senna last night..the maximum (for nights)..usually I only have three..8.6 tablets. Have also had 3 large cups of coffee and two large bottles of powerade, since I have not had a movement since last Sunday..something "comes out" but strain and strain..It won't budge further. Then when I got up..blood on toilet seat and in bowl. God, this is awful..I don't know how to make this less TMI, I hope I am not scaring you off..I feel comfortable with you, as you know what I am going through. This has never happened before. Very frightened. Before the Seroquel..by 9am I would Have a movement..first a few "pellets" then longer formed stools by about 10am, then "enema style" large movement, then rest of day..lots of Diarrhea..partially hard/softer then burning would start..usually still going a little and finally stop about 8pm. Leaving me feel like I had no stool left, but also leaving me very weak, shaky. I could barely get in shower to clean up before bed..wash my coffee pot, sanitize everything, including, phone, sink, pens, toilet, (which I would do after every movement) Microwave, etc. I was so shaky and weak while doing this..but I live in "housing", I am in very close quarters here with 31 other women/apartments..where not only do I Have severe OCD, but they (staff..resident manager and another lady do weekly room/apt checks)..so I had to make sure, everything very..clean..no "smells" so lots of air freshener, Febreze. Then I felt so lousy, I would not eat all day, but if I ate at night, the remaining laxative effect would just have me going again..then I would finally collapse in bed at about 11am..praying to God to help me..and just feeling neauseas..hoping I could make it to mandatory groups Monday afternoon without looking "weak or shaky" this happened for years and years without fail, this may explain the severe weight loss, with so much liquid and flushing all day. Now..nothing..

Have no transportation to ER, and cramping too much to call cab..if I call ambulance, they will take me to a hospital with the worst ER rated dept in the State.instead of the emergency room I normally prefer where they are the only ER that will give people large volume enemas.

Have severe left groin pain..feels like stool pushing toward vaginal area..there is a large bulge (sorry for sensitivity) there. A tiny bit of gas, it's 10:30am right now. Have been up since 4am..drinking coffee, powerade..ooh..yikes..gotta run..just maybe..sorry this was so long, my anxiety is through the roof..

Is there a way or means you can see a gynecologist. Seriously sounds like prolapse of somewhere down there. This can be caused through the pressure of constantly straining for a poo. Too many constipation tablets can make your bowel lazy as well. Do you have use of a sexual health clinic or gum clinic? Embarrassing yes,I had to bite the bullet to walk through the doors but so pleased I did. This all sounds like prolapse to me. You need to push (excuse the pun) for someone to take you seriously if your health insurance allows and will pay up. Have you tried glycerine suppositories, buy over the counter,to grease the way for poo to come out instead of senna etc. All the pushing and straining and pressure will also make your rectums soft tissue to swell so that doesn't help for a easy poo.you need to try to relax and also give yourself time on the lookout, just to sit. Read a book or listen to soft relaxing music,no interruptions for as long as it takes. All the craze for stomach and bowel issues over here is good aloe Vera capsules from a health shop

Yes, I will make an appointment. Although I would think a Urologist or Gastroenterologist would be better at diagnosing and treating devices or prolapse?

Hey

Sorry kinda come into this in middle of conversation.

Can you not get referred to a womens health physio?

Ie they do physio internally?

I had a enterocele and was sent to one of these ... all same symtoms as u and i have ibs( although symtoms have got better since enterocele got better)..

I was also sent to a gastro dr, she told me to go gluten and dairy free, take magnesium tablets( make u poo naturally) ,Good probiotic and digestive enzymes . I also take a peppermint oil cap for the 💨!

The physio really helped me, i dont know if it would help u im sure it would... mine went from a grade 2 to GONE!

In about 6 weeks!

Still do all me pf and core exercises and between all of it i feel so much better.

Mayb worth a try to see if they can help u? Also they do pessaries they can put up there to keep it all in place so u dont get that dragging pulling heavy feeling?

Hi ,what kind of hernia is it you have, like whereabouts? Never thought this would make me feel so I'll,groin pain ,pressure ,nausea, pelvic pain etc ok when sitting but if i am on my feet even just for ten minutes i feel awfull and in pain, did you have a lot of pain?pleased you are feeling relieved ,us girls go through some shit in our lifetimes i tell you not.

Lulububs profile image
Lulububs in reply to Nasturtion

It was a enterocele

So a hernia in vagina quite high up only a grade 1-2 but gynae told me there apparently the most painful i would have been in less pain if it just all fell through as it wouldnt b bulging into vagina then trying

To spilt through.

He sent me to the womens health physio who was briliant.

Gave me loads of internal physio and exercises and with 6 weeks it had gone in and has not come back out again.

The pain was horrific but i did have alot of other problems to ie ibs and sciatica it was just hurting all over really.

So i had to deal with alot.

So i went gluten dairy free.

Only eat lotsa fruit and veg and white meats and gluten free food and soya milk.

Try to keep a healthy gut bacteria as i need to keep regular as my ibs is c not d and that how i got my enterocoele basically straining!!!

I take magnesium capsule. Peppermint cap and probiotic and every night before bed i take a glug of lactulose

Solution.

All in all my whole days are built round exercise for enterocele!

Taking supplements for ibs and gloop for pooping ha ha

What is a Phisio?

Lulububs profile image
Lulububs in reply to Eliana5

Physiotherpist or a osteopath u can get ones that deal with different areas now.

Ive had great womens health one that did internal physio for my enterocele

And pelvic floor which was so tight it was killing my groin.

I also have a great osteopath that deals with my digestion groin and lower back sciatica which when it all inflames i get pain all in left hand side from butt all around Hip in groin.

If u get a good womens health physio they can fit pessaries for any kind of prolapses if they think it cant b helped with exercises.

I was lucky mine was a 1-2 grade enterocele which with hard work and exercises and physio i reversed it... it gone.

***phew..finally! Had a movement..but only produced between 12-15 large pellets..no stools..but feel better. I felt in that area like you said with a latex glove., and area seems softer..but hemmorhoids just came back. So not feel so tight..but the blood is worrying me..but probably normal considering have not gone in a week. I am not having any formed stools which is also concerning me..or even loose stools..just these hard to pass pellets. I wish I could take x-ray to see if I am still constipated..this groin pain..means I probably have lots of stool left. I did take a lot of Ibuprofen during the week..which is also constipating. Now I am trying to drink water..nothing more since the "pellets"..I am getting very concerned. Wish I could have another movement..and this left groin pain would stop..thank you for being there and listening. I think I may still go to ER somehow..I don't know what to do..

Nasturtion profile image
Nasturtion in reply to Eliana5

The blood will be off the hemmeroids more than likely. Go to er xplain things ,you can't and shouldn't have to live like this .

Eliana5 profile image
Eliana5 in reply to Nasturtion

All the ER will do is the usual. They will sometimes just put me on fluids..(salt)..tell me I am dehydrated..it usually (The IV) stings and makes me bruise easily. I usually within about 15 minutes..begging them to take it out. Then they just leave me hanging. They are tired of me and my visits. They used to smile and be nice..not anymore. Just get sighs and frowns..like "oh..no..here she is again.." Then just try to give me Relistor..or 2 bottles of magnesium citrate, tell me not "constipated enough" for an enema..(when I know I am)..look at my x-rays..tell me no impaction..if I insist on an enema..because I'm so miserable..they still try to send me home either on a laxative they give me there. Tell them I took a cab there..no way will cab driver stop in case I cramp badly or have to "go" they will then sigh..give me an enema..which produces a lot, and I am sure to tell them that. Only bad thing about enema..is that I cramp on my way back home..sometimes after I get back in my apt, I will go again, but produce very liquid stool..then have to shower to clean myself up..only to sometimes leak stool in the shower from the enema..so gross. Then I will feel good for about a day, have a good sense of well-being to only feel constipated again..the next day..so don't feel they usually do that great of a job..my rectum hurts from the nozzle for days. The discharge papers just talk about how to take more fiber..water, stool softener, (which does not work), tell me to "follow up" with my primary care physician..(who does nothing, but refer me to gastro)..and on it goes. I have to attend mandatory groups so I am afraid to get on Linzess..lots of stool softeners, etc daily, because if we don't attend group (no bathroom breaks allowed) we get a "write up" three write ups..we are evicted..no excuses. We can usually give them 5 points to "get out of a group" but we only get one point to attend a group..so several residents are "petitioning" saying it's very harsh..5 points to only get out of a one point group, and only once a month..I have no money to move..so I am stuck here. I do like living here..lots of pros..but there are also a lot of rules..to live here. I am starting to produce a bit more now, but it's a very slow process, lots of coffee. I really need to try to stay on the Seroquel because of all the positive effects on my emotional well being and mood/anxiety, and insomnia..

For your Rectocele, is there any way you can get the plastic round thing inserted..(saw it when I googled), that separates your vagina from your bladder or rectum?

I don't know what's going to happen yet till I see a gynea, listening to your problems doesn't really justify me moaning about things. You are much worse off than me in all ways. I can put up with the discomfort in my lower end as long as I don't get backed up again so will avoid op if given the choice. What I'm panicking about now is the constant indigestion and waves of nausea,so I could have a inguinal prolapse as well is what I'm thinking,I honestly don't know.

It's okay..that is what this board is all about. Talking about problems with digestive system. I am a good listener..and if you feel bad or not well, I'm here to listen. Although I'm not a Doctor or have medical expertise, I can be of support and don't mind talking about or listening and emphasising to sensitive issues. We can't really tell who is worse, all symptoms we have are all painful..mine is not worse than others on here, I don't think.. So..complain away..I don't mind at all..☺

How are you..did you see gyno yet? The Colace is working somewhat..but usually just a few days after laxative..then today I had 2 large Mochas at an espresso shop..and then it works because of the coffee..but other than that..not much. Will see what Gastro says at end of month..

Hi ,pain been so bad last few days, nausea just felt really poorly, worried what the hell was going on,doc gave me strong painkillers yesterday nefapam. Took a few doses ,didn't work,so upped the dose, didn't work for the pain just made me really irritable and anxious. Anyway took myself off to a and e again . Think they keep a chair waiting for me now been that many times the last few month. Done blood work bladder scan ,ECG,blood pressure etc etc ,anyway i thought yes at last they are doing what they should have done weeks ago. Turns out I've got a bad infection somewhere in my body, white cells were elevated really high,so antibiotics. Hope this works. All other tests were normal, liver pancreas etc. How are you doing?

Eliana5 profile image
Eliana5 in reply to Nasturtion

I am hanging in there..sorry to hear about the pain. It's tough..I know. then you see people feeling better, and it makes me wonder..why not us..when we have tried everything, gone to every Doctor. Worried about cyst on spleen, now..just waking up early with anxiety the last few days. Do you ever have that? Hate it. I wonder where the infection is? Did they give you any ideas? My white blood cell count is high too..still wondering if I am anemic and still need to take the Folic acid. Can they try another pain med? I got neauseas on them too..finally they put me on Hydrocodone (Vicodin)..and it worked..but pain meds are notorious for making you backed up. Had to take "Movantik" every day..and even that was not a sure thing. Then when I got off pain meds I had been on for past seven years..Got off of them cold turkey..that is when all my digestive issues began..have never recovered and it's been nearly two years. If anyone would have told me digestive system goes into "shock" never would have taken them..are there any others (pain meds) you can try? Stinks to be nauseated..I know..

Hi, have anxiety everyday to some extent ,last fifteen yrs been on antidepressants, health anxiety i have got, brought on by nearly all my family dying of cancer ,throat ,lung ,pancreas X two.so always think I'm dying of it whenever i am not well . Anxiety is the pits and you feel also as if your dying,it takes on so many different forms. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Anxious and feel sick as soon as open my eyes.however i did come off the tablets about four month ago, first time in many years I've managed successfully, so I'm ok after the initial morning anxiety .funny that as it's about then when i started to have problems down below. I am praying the antibiotics work for whatever this infection is,really don't like the high white blood cell count as again it makes me think cancer straight away. I know it's not my pernicious anemia as i only had my injection for it last month . So we will wait and see.xx

Hi

Just thought id get on this one as u all sound so much like me...

The constipation, so many trips to

A&e to get cleaned

Out!

It was the drugs that did it but i had so much pain coz i have groin

Pain and sciatic pain also had a enterocele.

It end i had to come of all the drug cocodamol 30/500 and naproxen as my liver and kidney function came back bad so i was taken of everything which was awful, 2 years of

Pain meds and then nothing!

Cold turkey.

I was given womens health physio for the enterocele and physio for groin pain and it really helped... they worked on my digestive system and groin and i went from Pooping once a fortnight to every day.....

It was defo to much medication... it makes ur digestive system slow....

i started magnesium capsule, probiotics and digestive enzymes to try to make my gut bit more healthy after 2

Years of battering it with to much pain meds. Drank 3 litres of fluids a day and i now go every day mayb twice a day and it the best feeling....

I still have groin pain which they found out that coz i was constipated so long my psoas , groin and sciatic nerve have all inflamed due to the constipation sitting in colon and the colon sitting on them nerves which then aggravates gut.

It really hard it taken me 2

Years to get back to about 65% better but that only through making sure i go to toilet everyday and physio
