Hi ,recently seen four docs and all say ibs. Bloating comes and goes but very uncomfortable as this seems to cause me not to be able to take a deep breath especially when either sitting or lying down ,does anybody else have this problem and also the muscle spasms in my upper stomach and bubbling and fizzing.

Hi, yes I get the feeling of not being able to take a deep breath also. Haven't figured out what causes it though. Sorry this is a bit short but in a lot of pain at the moment. Maureen.

I get the same problem and have not yet been able to find out what is causing it. I have an ultrasound test this week so I'm hoping that might come up with some answers.

Have you tried keeping a food diary to see if it is anything that you are eating that makes it worse?

Cj20uk thanks. Just busy trying to figure it out. Yesterday I had no wheat which I think I am sensitive to anyway but not celiac . Hence ,no bloating at bed time. Was able to breath no bother. So I figure that when we are bloated it presses on your diaphragm and doesn't let the lungs expand fully. So today I had no wheat and I didn't bloat atall and am breathing deep breaths so you just test it when you bloat compared to when you don't bloat . Hope I've fathomed it anyway.

As well as food it can be caused by swallowing to much air that gets trapped and causes the bloating. When we eat and drink we swallow air, sometimes to much. But keep trying with the food, it might take a few days for the effect of some foods to stop so don't judge it from just one day. Another thing can be tight clothing around your waist.

But keep experimenting and you should work it out.

Good luck.

Its good that you ahve found something which does affect it so you can avoid it. I agree that it is becasue it presses on your diaphragm so you can't take deep breaths. I've not mananged to find out what is causing mine yet.

I get the same problem of not being able to breathe deeply when my IBS flares up. I’ve been following a strict FODMAP diet for the last year and it has helped a lot. I mainly get problems now when I deviate from the diet.
