I’m new on the IBS journey, following campylobacter last summer we think. Have tried a couple of major dietary changes and just started some super strength probiotics recommended by GI consultant. Trying to stay positive and proactive but feeling this with be a long road. I also have a fatty liver, thyroid problems and severe vitamin d deficiency adding to the mix.
Not sure I’d be much help to anyone yet but wanted to say hi and it would be nice to share experiences along the way
All the best to everyone

There is a condition called post infectious IBS (which is what I have). Consider the FODMAP diet, which is available on the internet, although it is helpful to do it with a dietician. It has helped me a lot. Do you have constipation or diarrhea? For the latter, you can take an ccassional immodium, particularly if you have a busy day. I also take 1000 milligrams of vitamin D per day.
Yep been down this road too.. same bacteria infection...took Cipro and it stripped my intestines of everything...Its been a while and a long come back...its slow but I see small changes...I am so sorry you have to put up with this...its exhausting but our bodies are amazing and time does heal things...certain foods make it worse as you well know...
Same issue. Took cephalexin back in May for cellulitis from 2 degree sunburn. Got cdiff from it and saw a gastro doctor that prescribed me amitriptyline. Can't really tell if it is helping or not. He also ran blood test which all came back normal and said that it is most likely ibs and to take fiber pills, amitriptyline, a probiotic, and Dicyclomine. Still having loose to kinda normal bowels with mucus on and off. Also have alot of gurgling in stomach and alot of gas.
Wish I had a better answer to what the problem is. GI doctor doesn't want to do colonoscopy due to my age (26) and no blood in stool.
Thanks for your replies everyone, it’s reassuring to find other people to chat to! I’m
42 and drs reluctant to do anything other than blood tests too, although I’m putting an upper GI CT Scan on a credit card due to so much pain around my right side liver area and already having fatty liver diagnosis. I’m under a lot of stress too, having counselling for C-PTSD so dr prescribed sertraline and has suggested this could be hugely influenced by anxiety. Not sure I want to take the pills.
What do people think about trying one thing at a time? It would be really helpful to figure out what might be helping. I’m thinking of trying lactose free, possibly digestive enzymes too, maybe even hcl (despite my GP saying no such think as low stomach acid 🙄) but should I give each thing a few weeks at a time so I can narrow it down? I fluctuate between C and D but think the most pain and distress comes from trapped wind and bloating. Just started 50 million probiotics so might try that for a month first, will report back if helpful! Happy Friday everyone.
Try a tsp Apple cider vinegar( the kind with the mother) with glass of water before eating. This gets the acid going to break down your food. It’s worked for me.
It probably kills all the bad stuff too.
Also, take some peppermint capsules along with eating.
Hi Becky,
Great idea to try changing one thing at a time, and tracking progress. It seems slow but it gives you time to notice patterns and triggers (food and other) emerging.
