I've had a daily problem with IBS-D since contracting C-dif in the hospital. My PCP says that he doesn't mind how much Immodium I take but does not want to prescribe Viberzi because of the opium content. Even taking Immodium in the morning does not always stop the diarrhea. Is anyone taking medication that helps and is not opium based?
I also have Charcot, Marie, Tooth sydrome so can't take anything that would make my more unsteady while walking.
Thanks

Hi, a recent Consultant has prescribed Imodium in liquid form and has told me to experiment with dosage, starting with a 1/4 of a teaspoon taken at night. I haven’t had to even try this yet as he also prescribed Symprove probiotic which he KNEW would improve things - he was correct! After 12 weeks of Symprove I am the most normal I’ve been in 40 years so am a happy bunny.
Off the shelf probiotics are not the same as Smyprove. The Consultant that first prescribed it knew all the trial details etc. and wasn’t a bit surprised when I saw him in Review after 4 months to be told it had made a huge difference to me. My understanding is that most probiotics live bacteria die before reaching the gut because of stomach acid. Symprove allows the bacteria to reach the gut without this happening. But good luck for the future.
