Honestly, I'd say that you're better off getting advice about medications from a doctor or pharmacist, than here. Are you also drinking enough fluids? You need water to help the laxatives have their effect.
I'd also suggest that if the magnesium citrate isn't having the desired effect, perhaps you're best off trying something else. Alternatively, maybe there's an underlying psychological/neurological problem causing your IBS. For instance, depression is often associated with constipation, and perhaps seeing a counsellor or therapist may help you get to the bottom (no pun intended) of your constipation.
Hi laxatives didn't work for me, so I now take milled flaxseed. Also try insoluble fibre such as porridge rather than soluble fibre such as bran and wheat, they are more difficult to digest. As for the medication, I would contact your doctor. Also plenty of water. Hope this helps. Good luck.
MAKE SURE you are drinking plenty of water!!! That is critically important.... Also if you are eating a lot of meat...this tends to constipate one... so a balanced diet is really important. Good luck to you!

Magnesium glycinsate is very absorbent and will not cause lose stools in high doses
