My scan is this coming Wednesday and I am to drink this stuff beginning 2 hrs ahead of time. Was wondering if any of you had gone through this and about your reaction. I am afraid of it giving me diarrhea.
Has anyone of you had a CT scan where you had ... - IBS Network
Has anyone of you had a CT scan where you had to drink this stuff ahead of time?
I've done it and it didn't give mer diarrhoea, it does taste yucky though.
Was wondering what the substance is. 2 hours before it wont be an emetic, probably a revealer, so you should be ok. Do you take anything to slow your IBS? might be worth taking a precautionary dose. why not check with the scan or doctor first?
Good luck.
It may be barium which helps show up your digestive system under scan or X-ray.
Is it Gastrografin? If so, it's going to sit you on the toilet for the day!
That's amazing! As well as faecal tagging it is supposed to clear you out! I would think you have to er on the side of caution because the info told me to stay near the toilet. Thank goodness it did.
My daughter talked to the dr about this, she told me yesterday, because my son in law just recently had a ct scan and had to drink that 'stuff'...anyway, it is NOT like the drink they give you before a colonoscopy which is SUPPOSED to clear you out...they need the ct scan liquid to stay inside of you to show contrast on the scan...So...that made me feel better. I know everyone reacts differently!
Yes,sounds like its barium, you drink it and it helps light up your intestines so that the ultra sound xray is clear for them to see more clearly, and the old saying "what goes in, must come out". So yes, when I had it done, I did have it......sorry.
