I want more intolerance tests i.e. fructose, glucose, dairy to help with my IBS diet. How or where can I get these if my doctor won't?

Have had lactose test under NHS which proved 100% positive.

Hi

If you are intolerant to lactose then you will be intolerant of dairy products and a lot of tablet medication - you will have to read all the ingredients for ibuprofen and immodium and anything else that you may buy over the counter and is prescribed.

I 'cured' my symptoms myself within 3 weeks by eliminating all dairy products from myself. I have had no tests for intolerance. If you think you may be intolerant to anything else you can eliminate these from your diet and keep a food diary to see how your symptoms are affected.

Whoever did the lactose test and saw it as positive should have carried out the other tests. Go back and demand they refer you for the tests.

Thanks. Thats what I have asked for but it means getting referred back to the gastroenterologist which after a big deal with the stroppy GP she has agreed to do. The dietician also agreed with you.

I'm doing it myself too. But I will ask my GI when I see her. She's terrific!

What does the lactose test involve please ?

It involves 2 days sugar free diet then breath test.

Ok thanks. I was fobbed off by my Dr when I asked about this but noticed it's on the NHS website so I'll go back and ask again!
