Hi,

Do you mean that the diarrhoea triggers the dizziness, how long does it last? I think you should be talking to your doctor about this as I don't think vertigo is a common symptom of IBS.

Hi, thanks for your reply, I only get the dizziness when laying down and I have seen my doctor and he can find nothing wrong with me after blood tests. Hope things improve soon. Phooenixhaj

Drink plenty of water if you have diarrhoea..but see a GP anyway...the recent hot spell has made me very dizzy and light headed.. Upping fluid intake is helping a little.

When I have a bad flare-up I am prone to fainting, and vomiting quite a lot! Also certain medication I've tried had bad side effects such as dizziness and heart palpitations. Also if a place is too hot or stuffy like a shopping centre, I start to feel very nauseous, dizzy and that then triggers my IBS off. I've noticed that I'm very temperature sensitive, so try to avoid certain palces which are stuffy. I also try to eat little and often when this happens even though I dont want too! Though eating nothing is tempting when flare-ups are bad, by not eating it makes me feel very weak and more suscpetible to dizzy/fainting episodes. I have only found immodium, water and bland food to be useful in these situations and lots of fresh air. Alse lots of rest! Which is easier said than done if you work or have kids I know, I push through work as best as I can then on a night/ weekend I will rest as much as possible, till the episodes have passed. I have fainted numerous times in public, and had dozens of episodes of dizziness, and it is horrible, so I can empathise with you. I think it would be worth checking out with your Doctor if you can have a blood test to check for anaemia as well, just to rule this out. Anyway best wishes, I would be interested in hearing how you get on. I have a blog at mylifewithibs.com if you want to stay in touch, let me know if you find any good ways of dealing with it! x

hi. yes i get dizzy and light headed after sudden bowel movements . i thought it was dehydration at first. but then started taking my blood pressure and discovered that my bld pressure was dropping to 85/65 and that was why i was getting dizzy. GP told me just to lay down and rest till dizziness went . i bought a bld pressure monitor for home abt 25 euro and find it helpful for checking when i feel lightheaded. trisha .

I can empathise with this as when I have a sudden bowel movement(especially in a stressful situation) I always feel quite dizzy and sometimes sick and even go blind for a few minutes sometimes in my right eye. The blindness passes quite quickly but sometimes just sitting or preferably lying down if at home for a while (5-10 minutes) will help. I regularly take blood pressure and it often takes a dive when I am in pain with IBS.

Look for SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) and Google it. Your dizziness is due to Those bacteries because you are not taking in the right nutrients.
