Being told you, or your loved one, needs to have surgery for their brain tumour can be a worrying time, which we know many of our community face. Help us ensure that patients and their loved ones are provided with the best information and care during treatment by sharing you experience through our Improving Brain Tumour Care Surveys.
'I was first diagnosed with a brain tumour 10 years ago, having suffered blurred vision, headaches and sickness. I underwent surgery at the Walton Centre in Liverpool, and had a VP Shunt inserted to treat hydrocephalus. A devastating diagnosis, the tumour had a major impact on my memory, which I worked on improving for 2 years with regular occupational therapy, and physiotherapy to improve post-surgery weakness, enabling me to return to university.
The care I received – both inpatient and outpatient – was outstanding, and allowed me to return to living a normal life. I was very lucky that I had a specialist hospital local to me, and that the time from diagnosis to treatment was extremely quick
Committed to raising standards in hospitals nationwide, the Brain Tumour Charity uses surveys to gain invaluable data and insight from those who have a tumour diagnosis. By understanding where treatment centres are performing well, but also where standards of care could be improved, these surveys will have a direct impact in ensuring that everyone has access to the best possible care. Knowing the exemplary care I have received, I opted to complete the Improving Brain Tumour Surveys in the hope that other members of the brain tumour community will receive the best care.'
