Our optical engagement manager is happy to answer them during National Eye Health week, simply comment below!

Check out this website visionmatters.org.uk/ which has a wealth of information about caring for your eyes. There is also a link to Vista (visionmatters.org.uk/vista/..., a consumer magazine which features an inspiring real-life story about Sabrina Bell, one of our Young Ambassadors, whose routine eye test ultimately saved her life.

My daughter has to have an eyesight test every year for DVLA to renew her driving licence. Her vision was the indicator of brain tumour and instrumental in the diagnosis process. Thankfully a lot of her sight recovered following radiotherapy for Germinoma tumours, one of which was on her optic nerve. I cannot praise the optician enough for noticing her sight issues being a brain tumour after multiple trips to doctors with other brain tumour symptoms. Eyes are soooooo important and such an indicator of many problems. we must value our eyes and keep them checked regularly.

I’ve lost the sight in my right eye due to optic nerve damage caused by a Meningioma 4 years ago. I have regular eye tests and my lenses need changing again, because I wear varifocals it’s so expensive each time. My test was £35 plus £10 for another kind of test. New glasses and lenses, total £183.00. Is there any help with payments as I can’t afford it and I’m sure others can’t either. This was half price due to only needing one lens. Only having one eye, I really want it to be looked after and have the best sight available.

Hi ! I’ve written before - but here’s a summary- sudden ear & hearing issues in July then intense headache, numbness on face, (all on left side) issues with balance & dizziness. A&E said acoustic neuroma , gave vv strong steroids over 2 wks. (I have mild form of MS since ‘99 that affects right side - numbness & weaker muscles were main symptoms & on right!)

Then I got eye aches, extreme dryness. Right at start felt something was pushing & once physically moving my eye in its socket! Eye Drs saw retinal holes in recent regular check up. Chasing to try & get it to be seen to. Due to Covid all clinics closed!

So is there any link to these? Any info anyone? Anyone who had eye issues were they like that. Anyone with large tumours around the optic nerve - did you feel a similar push on the eye?

I’m now going pvt (thru Benenden joined from work) to try & get a mri scan to eliminate the AN. Oh nhs ent saw me & said if I had the symptoms for 6m more then I could return to them & then they would give a mri scan! I can’t sit with this for 6m! Can’t go to work & so going into 1/2 pay from this month as org. Have changed their sick pay rules! Will have to return to work next month as want to keep the last 1/2 pay month in case I fall ill any other time! Grr if that 1st consultant had given it would have known in aug! Goodness 4m gone already!

Thanks any info/advice will help.
