Should I see the GP after 10 years of bulimia?

After suffering with bulimia for 10 years I am trying to overcome it - I am scared to go to the doctor in case he doesn't understand but just wondered if I should really get a general health check done?

Hi, I really do think you should go to your G.P, that's what he is there for, he may not understand completely what you are going through but he will be able to refer you to a specialist service that will give you the help and support that you need. If you are worried about speaking to the G.P you could always write things down on paper beforehand and hand that over if you get really worried or stuck. Hope it goes ok! x

Hi - thanks very much for the advice, I really appreciate you responding. I hadn't thought of writing things down before seeing the doctor and I think that might help me - saying the words feels like the hardest thing for me as I think I'll cry. Thanks again x

No problem at all. Honestly, a doctor is there to help and what you are going through is a medical condition that someone will be able to support you with. I always get tongue tied and emotional if I need to talk to anyone about something sensitive so writing things down really helps, either to remind you of what you need to say or just to hand over the paper if you get stuck all together. If you need any other support there are places that can help like MIND or have a look at the BEAT website. I really do wish you all the best! You can do this x
