Escitalopram

Hello,

Does anyone have any experience with the medication Escitalopram? My doctor just prescribed it for an eating disorder I’ve been struggling with (binge+purging) as well as for anxiety and depression treatment. I was on sertraline for 3 years and then another version of Citralopram before that and a few others I’ve forgotten the names of. I’ve been off medication for 6 months now and am still feeling low mood and impulsive behaviours despite exercising and jogging every day. I also work in a bar so I need to know if it is safe to mix with beer (in moderation 1-3 drinks 1-4 times a week).

Thanks kindly to any suggestions, prior experience anyone can share.

Warm Regards

Jen

Hi Jen8882, I have been on 10mg for about 8 weeks now. I had it primarily for low mood after the sudden death of my mother but having also been in hospital several times recently for low potassium due to laxative abuse the Doctor said this medication should help with that too!

The medication has generally ‘numbed’ my emotions, which is what I wanted and it has been the best that I have tried in the last couple of years! Sometimes the emotions do kick back in when I’m least expecting it but I seem more able to curb them! I know this isn’t ideal because it means I’m blocking things out instead of dealing with it but that’s where I’m at at the mo!

I can’t advise about the alcohol because I don’t drink.

It hasn’t stopped my desire to binge, vomit, take laxatives or SH but that’s probably because my head isn’t in the right place to address that at the mo.

Sorry, this probably isn’t much help!

I hope the medication helps you, I know I’m on a low dose and it can be upped-not sure what dose you’re on.

X
