Post surgery - day 7
Mini
sternotomy
avr. So I have a 4in wound at top of sternum. Plus loads of pin pricks as reminders of various lines, drips, pacer wires etc. And two drain hole sites. All went well and I came home on Wed - day 5!! From taking no medication I am now on a veritable cocktail of drugs.

Post sternotomy arm/hand movementramotswe
Thank you all for those heartening (-: replies. No marigoldb, I don't live alone luckily and I have good friends - though not as far away as NZ. Your experience sounds really positive. After all you're only 83! Thank you all again - I'm so relieved to have discovered the forum. It has answered many questions

Post sternotomy arm/hand movement
I'm new here and have been really impressed by the level tone of the posts. As a result of rheumatic fever at 13, later this month I'm having aortic and mitral valve replacement at 77, possibly with a 70% blocked LAD (left anterior descending artery) bypass - not sure until we see the surgeon on Wednesday

Chest/wound pain months after operation
I had a partial
sternotomy
(is that the right word). Over recent months, I’ve been conscious of discomfort to the right hand side of where they went through the ribs and there is also a pronounced bony ridge forming where the sternum is rejoining.

Mitral Valve Prolapse (Regurgitation - Flailing Leaflet)
I'd like to explore what any restrictions there may be to undergoe "Keyhole" surgery (Minimally Invasive surgery) rather than what has been offered - a
Sternotomy
or an Open Heart jobby.

Post-sternotomy pain syndrome 15 months after my cardiac surgery.
My understanding from Dr Google is that this is most likely to be post-
sternotomy
pain syndrome following cardiac surgery.

After the operation for ascending aorta replacement
Whilst waiting to go into theatre, I was then told there’d been a change of plan and they were going to perform a mini
sternotomy
instead. B and I were then wheeled into the anaesthetic room.

Mild chest pain 6 months after aorta valve replacement
The operation that followed is referred to as "a median
sternotomy
and a standard cardiopulmonary bypass". Everything went fine. Recovery too. Three months later I started playing squash again, obviously very slowly, day by day. After three weeks I could more or less play a lightish game.

Sternotomy discomfort / anxiety
I am now coming up to 2 years post CABG and still getting mild non specific discomfort in my chest. I am regularly walking 10+ miles without any issues. My twinges can come when I am sat down. I can walk up 8 flights of stairs with minimal breathlessness. Doctors assure me that my discomfort is unlikely

Minimally invasive mitral valve surgery
The other considerations I would like your thoughts on are, there is no guarantee that the valve could be repaired by this type of surgery and if unsuccessful would still have to have a conventual
sternotomy
.

Sternotomy
Hi just curious I'm just over 3 weeks post surgery. Does anyone know how long u still get pain in the sternum / breastbone after surgery? A majority of pain has gone healing well, but on sneezing /coughing and certain movements I have pain and or ache / twinges sensation at top of breastbone centrally

Prior midline

Had a cardiovascular collapse, emergency
sternotomy
and placed on life support. Now being told another ablation too risky and should have AV node ablation and pacemaker, which it appears presents the same risks as ablation.

My story
The pain in my chest was put down to the
sternotomy
, no-one suggested costochondritis (which apparently is what is was, I keep getting it). Then I went bright yellow and was admitted to hospital with AST/ALT readings in the thousands.

Icu.Halucinations.
Being carted away on a trolley again was the last thing I remember …… Open Heart surgery involving a
Sternotomy
and Tracheostomy followed by an induced coma for 10 days. My Hallucinations.
