Why does the thyroid produce T3?
As we all know, the thyroid produces T4 and T3. Given that the body converts T4 to T3, why does the thyroid produce T3? I once asked Prof Weetman this - he admitted he didn't know.

Tibilone experiences
Hi. I have very severe endometriosis and adenomyosis and am awaiting surgery which will likely involve having a stoma. I’ve previously had left ovary removed and both tubes and I’ve recently been told my right ovary is failing. Unfortunately there was been little improvement to my Endometriosis even

Hi, I've had one prostap injection. Things were going great, I thought they might be the best thing ever. However my anxiety has crept in. My second injection was due today but I cancelled it. I've had one heavy bleed last week. I didn't have hrt with it, it was there waiting for me if I needed it.

Should go into the OMAHA2a ODM-208 (MK-5684-004): phase 3 trial?
I had my 3 monthly OC visit last week. Blood test is showing 0.3 up from 0.15 six weeks ago. MO is suggesting that I should go into the ODM-208 (MK-5684): phase 3 trial if PSA rises above 1.0. PSA of 1.0 or above is a entry requirement for the trial, presumable to be sure that my current treatment

Advice Please
Hi everyone. I have had 16 gynaecological operations starting at aged 13 and ending 23 years ago a day before my 40th birthday when I had an emergency hysterectomy where for some reason they left my cervix. Following my op they tried HRT but my BP shot up so I was taken off it. Urinary incontinence

Stopping Zoladex & HRT
I just wondered if anyone has had any negative experiences when stopping zoladex injections and HRT? I've been on zoladex for around 8 months now but my moods have become so extreme on them and I've still been bleeding severe on them I've decided to stop to see how I get on. I had my last injection

PGAD relief tips
Hi all, I am reaching out to see amy tips you may have for relief? Currently lasts 24 hours a day, worst is at night but never goes away. Its very distressing and I cried again today as am just so exhausted. Have seen a urogynacologist and am now trialling HRT patches (hysterectomy in 2018) plus estrogen

I wonder if my thyroid was going wrong for decades before I became hyperthyroid?
I went hyperthyroid about 19 years ago. My explanation for it has been that it came soon after the birth of my beautiful son (amazing but stressful of course) and then the sudden death of my father a year or so later. I was just rambling on an ADHD forum (DX in 2022 now titrating) and the question occurred

Are thyroid problems hereditary?
I had a subtotal thyroidectomy in 1985 at the age of 35 to remove a multinodular goitre. The specialist thought that my previously functioningThyroid would work properly afterwards. Four months later I was totally exhausted to the point where even making a cup of tea required huge effort and I was unable

Graves disease symptoms?
Hi there, I'm newly diagnosed (by UK GP) with Graves disease, and am waiting to see an endocrinologist who is supposed to prescribe me carbimazole. I have a question about my symptoms, which are mild but seem more consistent with hypO than hypERthyroidism: My blood test results were: -Free T3: 13.8

Some advice on new lab results please
I am a 40 year old woman and have been feeling very weird lately. I was wondering if I entered perimenopause so I had a blood draw on 21st day of my cycle. I think my progesterone is low? estradiol: 110 ng/L progesteron: 9.13 microgram/L LH: 11.7 U/L FSH: 7.9 U/L (I am not on HRT)

antidepressants and the thyroid
Is there any evidence that antidepressants affect the role of the thyroid (production/conversion of thyroxine etc)? Any information gratefully appreciated.
