Fev1 percentage drop?
Hello, although I understand that fev1 will decline in people with copd at what rate does it decline ? Mine own fev1 as stayed pretty much the same for the last few years give or take 1 or 2% I think this maybe due to my age, I am 43, can I expect to see a faster decline as I get older or is

Will FEV1 improve after quitting smoking?
I smoked for 42 years and have been diagnosed with COPD with a FEV1 of 67%. I know COPD does damage that cannot be reversed but reading the affects of quitting smoking improved lung function of up to 30% within 9 months is one of the benefits. While I would not expect to see imnprovements of 30% because

Spirometry and medication
Spirometry,I have never been advised by the respiratory nurse or doctor whether or not you should be fully medicated or not before the test. The reason I ask is that I have just had my annual review and to my surprise my FEV1 has improved from 36 percent predicted to 43 percent predicted! The only

what is the relationship between fev1&2 and gas transfer rate
fev1 of 40% or a gas transfer 40% are they both effectively the same when describing the severity of emphysema are they both just measures what is the most reliable fev gas transfer or HRCT scan

Walking with 'Di and Ama' part2
http://www.swlakestrust.org.uk/lakes-and-facilities/the-lakes/siblyback-lake Two weeks ago today I said I would walk an extra mile each day up to '3 Peaks Day', and then attempt to walk 3 miles in one go - one mile for each mountain. This is my way of acknowledging the tremendous effort and achievement

Bronchitol
I saw Tyniesha's post on this so thought I would update everyone. Bronchitol has been extensively trialled in the UK and I was on the bronchiectasis trial at the Brompton & am now getting it on compassionate grounds. It's amazing! I haven't had a single chest infection in the 2 yrs I've been on it

Please tell NICE your views on this wonderful new therapy to help clear mucus
Dear lovely people Inhaled mannitol (brand name Bronchitol) is a new inhaled powder therapy which liquefies thick, sticky mucus in the lungs, enabling it to be easily coughed up. This can greatly benefit people with congestive lung problems eg cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis. I have asthma+bronch

Hello to my fellow sufferers of COPD.
Hello. I am Derek and used to be a member of NHS choices until they closed down their blog. I also write my own copd blog and am pleased that seems to have helped many people. It took on a life of it's own and there is lots of information to be gleaned from it. I am treasurer to my local Breathe
