PV & Gene Editing for Sickle cell anemia
Since many of us are treated with
hydroxyurea
which is approved for sickle cell anemia, I was wondering if this may be in our future? "The F.D.A. approved the first gene editing therapy ever, for sickle cell disease, a debilitating blood disorder caused by a single mutated gene.

Dry skin
Does anyone feel that
Hydroxyurea
causes your skin to dry out and wrinkle faster?

Unsure of treatment
I have now been told to start
hydroxyurea
because of my age and was reluctant to do so because of side effects. There has been no discussion about anything and I am not aware of a ‘team’. After joining this group and reading posts, I am beginning to think that something is missing in my care!

Hematocrit and CLL
My last appointment I had: WBC 15.0 HCT 51% My MD has suggested possibly (about a year ago but nothing since then) taking
hydroxyurea
. However, that discussion has not resurfaced. I have had to have blood withdrawn about 5 times to lower the hematocrit. Since 2020.

I'm currently on
hydroxyurea
started at 500 MG a day which I tolerated well but wasn't bringing my platelets down (when I got referred from passing out and having to go to the ER my platelets were 1.5 million) they jumped me to 1000 a day and platelets did start coming down...last visit they were still

Hydroxyurea vs Besremi
Which drug is considered less toxic on the body -
hydroxyurea
or besremi? My MPN specialist put me on
hydroxyurea
a few years ago with the plan to switch over to besremi in a couple of months. I did get insurance approval for the besremi a long time ago but I've been hesitant to make the switch.

Laparoscopic Surgery and PV
He said I could take the
Hydroxyurea
up to the day of surgery, but I need to ask the surgeon about the low dose aspirin, which I still have to do. He also said that it is ok to have a phlebotomy if it is over 42, even a few days before surgery.

I researched a little and read that
hydroxyurea
could cause them. Has anyone experienced this? Thank you, Mbr8076

milk thistle works!
The increase also happened previously from taking
hydroxyurea
first and anagrelide second which resulted in other bad side effects while treating ET JAK2. Then hematologist had me see a liver specialist.

Can anyone tell me if they have ever had a problem with Hydroxyurea and leg ulcers
It took two months for my hemotologist to respond to my request to have an appointment, and she will now see me, after receiving notes from the dermatologists and doctor questioning the the
hydroxyurea
. (They asked me if I could go off HU.)
