Testosterone.
We have seen two PCa prevention trials that sought to protect men by lowering dihydrotestosterone [DHT] levels: (1) the Reduction by
Dutasteride
of Prostate Cancer Events (REDUCE) trial & (2) the {Finasteride} Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial (PCPT).

Nocturia.
In a paper published in September, Steve Freedland & team looked at data from the REDUCE (Reduction by
Dutasteride
of Prostate Cancer Events) trial, "to test the association between baseline nocturia (voiding ≥3 times per night) and all-cause mortality" [1].

Dutasteride [Avodart] & Abiraterone [Zytiga]?
"The patent protection of
dutasteride
expired in November 2015" [1] "
Dutasteride
is a 5α-reductase inhibitor ...{&}... works by decreasing the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) ..." (from testosterone). [1] It is not approved for treating PCa.

Thoughts on BAT
Dutasteride
however has a half life close to a month and takes about 6 months to clear, so if you are taking it you need to wait that long after stopping before you start BAT. I don’t think that is viable.

Should I do more?
This time trelstar only; stopped casodex and
dutasteride
. Had sbrt to two bone nets. So I’m still castrate sensitive (T = 9.0) after 4 1/2 years of IADT and SRT to mets discovered on each holiday in 2015, 2017 and 2018. See profile for details.

Males : Is your frequency of urination is high? It could be BPH !
The Dutas T is a combo drug of
Dutasteride
and Tamsulosin. The former tries to reduce the size of the enlarged prostate and the later is an Alpha blocker which tries to relax the muscles in the prostate and bladder.

5α-reductase inhibitors for benign prostate hypertrophy and risk of high-grade prostate cancer
Recall that both the PCPT (Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial, using Finasteride) & the REDUCE (Reduction by
Dutasteride
of Prostate Cancer Events) trials led to a significant reduction in lesser PCa, but an apparent increase in high-grade disease (Gleason score [GS] 8-10). It made sense to me.

Backdoor Dihydrotestosterone [DHT] & CRPC.
"... combined treatment using catalytically inactive 3α-oxidoreductase mutants and the 5α-reductase inhibitor,
dutasteride
, decreased DHT levels in CaP cells better than
dutasteride
alone.

CRPC & Avodart [Dutasteride].
Dutasteride
was efficacious against CRPC in certain patients and may be a promising option in CRPC treatment. A prospective randomized trial is necessary to verify the efficacy of
dutasteride

At what age can I stop Dutasteride?
I stopped the
Dutasteride
for a while and it went to 9.8 last July, so I went back on
Dutasteride
. Now, it's back to 8.0. I have read conflicting recommendations, many saying that at my age, I shouldn't worry about PSA any more. Okay, but does that mean that I can ditch the expense of
Dutasteride
?

Cholesterol & High-Grade PCa.
"REDUCE was a four-year multi-center study testing the effect of daily
Dutasteride
{Avodart} on PC risk in men with a PSA of 2.5 to 10.0 ng/mL and a negative biopsy, with men undergoing study-mandated biopsies at 2- and 4-years.

My Cancer Journey
I am presently using lupron, zytiga, prednisone, xgeva, and

Ground Flaxseed, Flaxsee Oil & Flaxseed Oil.
LOL) There seems to be two responses to the intervention, rather like the Finasteride &
Dutasteride
PCa prevention studies - a benefit for Gleason 6, but an apparent stimulation of more serious cancer.

Statin Use & Prostate Inflammation in the REDUCE Trial.
First a recap of the REDUCE trial: "The Reduction by
Dutasteride
of Prostate Cancer Events clinical trial is an international, multicenter, double-blind, placebo controlled chemoprevention study designed to determine if
dutasteride
0.5 mg daily decreases the risk of biopsy detectable prostate cancer.

5-Alpha Reductase Inhibitors & PCa in BPH cases
The two PCa prevention studies (Finasteride [Proscar] &
Dutasteride
[Avodart]) both reported a big reduction in lesser PCa, but an unexpected higher proportion of Gleason score 8-10. The new (large) study looked at 5-ARI use men with BPH.

I have been taking Avodart (now
