Has any one been prescribed Dutasteride and ha... - Alopecia UK
Has any one been prescribed Dutasteride and have you noticed any beneficial effects yet?
Dutasteride is a drug that interferes with DHT and, although it was originally intended for prostate related disease, is used for androgenic hair loss.
Studies have shown that it is at least similar in efficacy and side effects to finasteride (aka Propecia) but some say that it has either better results, less side effects or both.
As far as I am aware, there are not any large clinical trials on its use in women.
I take Dutasteride for hair loss - having taken propecia formally - I am only 24 and started when I was 20. The NHS is unwilling to prescribe it for hair loss, or at lost not offer an NHS prescription, so you may have to get it privately. The main reason why I begun taking it is because I started losing my hair early. My father is also completely bald which put total fear into me. I would definitely recommend it to all young men worried about drastic hair loss. FYI I have not suffered any side effects.
