Thoughts on BAT
I know some readers supplement with finasteride (Proscar) and dutasteride (Avodart), 2 old antiandrogens that inhibit 5-alphareductase (5AR) and prevent the formation of
dihydrotestosterone
(DHT), a very powerful androgen that our cancers love.

Dutasteride [Avodart] & Abiraterone [Zytiga]?
.{&}... works by decreasing the production of

Dihydrotestosterone [DHT] & PCa castration resistance [CRPC].
Of note, glucuronidation-incompetent cells and the resultant loss of intracellular conjugated
dihydrotestosterone
were detectable in vivo by 18F-
dihydrotestosterone
PET.

Androgen Annihilation.
explains it well: "Androgens may be “annihilated” using simultaneously a luteinizing hormone releasing hormone (LHRH) antagonist or agonist to inhibit testicular production of testosterone, a cytochrome P45017A1 (CYP17A1) inhibitor to diminish metabolism of testosterone via the adrenal pathway and

Melatonin - Review.
As prostate physiology is under the control of androgens (testosterone and
dihydrotestosterone
) and their metabolites, androgen deprivation therapy (by inhibition of hormone biosynthesis or androgen receptor deprivation) has been extensively used in PC.

DHEA & Drug Resistance.
For DHEA-SO4 to be utilized there is uptake by organic anion transporter polypeptides, deconjugation catalyzed by steroid sulfatase, and adaptive upregulation of prostate steroidogenic enzymes that will convert DHEA into either testosterone or

5α-reductase inhibitors for benign prostate hypertrophy and risk of high-grade prostate cancer
While 5alpha-reductase inhibitors (5-ARIs) reduce
dihydrotestosterone
[DHT], they also reduce the beneficial DHT metabolite that is the natural ligand for the protective beta estrogen receptor [ERbeta]. Time passed & there was no excess mortality in either treatment arm.

Pygeum and PSA
I read: ‘Unlike the drug finisteride, pygeum does not appear to work by affecting the conversion of testosterone to
dihydrotestosterone
; but rather, it is thought to reduce inflammation in the prostate and to inhibit prostate growth factors, substances implicated in inappropriate prostate enlargement

Testosterone metabolites inhibit proliferation of castration- and therapy-resistant PCa.
I mention elsewhere how in normal prostatic cells, the presence of growth-stimulating
dihydrotestosterone
[DHT] induces an enzyme for its rapid clearance, & that a DHT metabolite - 3beta-adiol - is the natural ligand for an estrogen (!) receptor, ERbeta.

PSA & the Sun
In a post hoc analysis, serum testosterone levels were increased in men with MC1R rs1805007 and serum
dihydrotestosterone
in men with ASIP rs1015362. CONCLUSION: Men with SNPs in SLC45A2, who have less sun sensitive skin, have lower PSA levels.

I need to supply the doctor Im seeing with the follow bloods: "LFTs, lipids, glucose, vitamin D, FBC, LH, FSH, SHBG, oestradiol, testosterone,

CRPC & Avodart [Dutasteride].
Abstract It has previously been demonstrated that the intratumoral generation of the potent androgen
dihydrotestosterone
(DHT), contributes critically to the progression of prostate cancer and its castration-resistant form, castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC).

Jevtana [Cabazitaxel] & Androgen Status.
For instance, there is a potential pathway that produces DHT (
dihydrotestosterone
) but not via the usual T (testosterone) path. Also, PCa cells accumulate cholesterol, which potentially can be used to produce any of the steroid hormones.

Xtandi/Enzalutamide & Curcumin/Turmeric
{
Dihydrotestosterone
[DHT] (the natural AR ligand) strongly competes with Xtandi for AR binding, so it is just as well to use Avodart, even with castrate testosterone [T], since PCa has been known to manufacture DHT via a back-door path that does not involve T.}

How can I get a more sensitive Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) score?
Collaborative Laboratory Services subcontracts the
Dihydrotestosterone
(DHT) part of my blood work out to the blood service conducted by Mayo Clinic Laboratories. When DHT is lower than 50 they report >50; I want to know the true score.

Can any hormone therapy or something that suppresses testosterone or
dihydrotestosterone
(casodex, ketonazole, avodart...) help him or is his PC castrate - resistant? Zytiga and Xtandi are not possibe as long-term treatment for financial reasons.
