LUPRON vs FIRMAGON: Is The Debate About Superiority Over? With the December FDA approval of Relugolix the debate may now be moot
Firmagon (
degarelix
) was FDA approved in 2008. The prevailing consensus is that
degarelix
is the superior drug. This conclusion is not unchallenged.

My primary treatment to the prostate was HIFU so apart from early Lu-177 I have had no radiotherapy to the prostate.

Micro-Mets Next Steps
I see my oncologist in a few days, and if Medicare will cover it, I am thinking I’ll be going on
degarelix
(Firmagon) supplemented by darolutamide (Nubeqa), both chosen because of past cardiac concerns (presumably heart and brain-safer than Lupron and Apalutamide).

Change of Plan?
Degarelix
10th February 2022 0.55 - given third and final Lu-177 and fourth
Degarelix
For the chemo they would use a cold cap/ cold gloves/ cold socks to prevent hair loss and neuropathy Finally sorting a gene sequence on original biopsy tissue.

Aggarwal's Androgen Annihilation trial for 1 year (
Degarelix
+ Abiraterone + Apalutamide + Prednison). He stayed non-detectable for 1 year post trial and now, but PSA has been on the rise. The last PSMA scan found 1 small avid lesion on his pelvic bone for which he had SBRT.

Unfortunate News precipitated by rare side effect of Docetaxl
He was diagnosed with Stage 4 Prostate cancer in June 2020 and started ADT (Arbiraterone +
Degarelix
(monthly) + Denosumab (Quarterly)) soon after. His cancer became Castration Resistant starting May 2021 (PSA doubling time around a month) and he insisted starting chemotherapy soon.

Changing treatments?
I have been on Firmagon (
Degarelix
) for 6 months now & have had success with it bringing the PSA down from 18.6 to 0.7 & now the ONC wants to change to Zoladex but am worried about different side effects. Is there any worse side effects?

Orgovyx pharmacy availability
My husband is being switched from
degarelix
to Orgovyx. Walgreen’s doesn’t carry it. His oncologist ordered it from a specialty pharmacy called Biologics but it has not arrived, and he is supposed to start it today. For those of you already taking Orgovyx, which pharmacy did you use?

Need help asap
Had one
Degarelix
just before the MRI and a surgical castration since. Seems like after each test, his dementia is worse. Should I ask he wait on the scans until a treatment is in place?

1st Post - Still in shock...
Immediately after surgery I was given an injection of
Degarelix
which I have continued monthly. In July my PSA had dropped to 12. I go again next week. The Oncologist is content to just continue the
Degarelix
and monitor the PSA level. I'm 59 and was very fit and active.
