Why London Underground is wrong to stop us walking up escalators

You may have heard that London Underground is running an experiment to stop people walking up the escalators at Holborn tube station in London. It hopes to prove that doing so speeds peoples' journeys up an reduces crowding.

We think that not only is this bad for two reasons. First, it's stopping people getting a little bit of extra exercise in their day. And second, the existing science already shows that it doesn't work to make people's journeys quicker.
